JOB SUMMARY
The Resident Support Assistant is responsible to provide assistance to a Team Leader/Charge Nurse and CNA under the supervision of a Team Leader/Charge Nurse. Follows established facility policies and procedures while assisting other facility personnel. Supportive of Village mission values and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training as required by policy.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Acquires supplies linens as needed. Distributes hand and face cloths and basins.
- Checks patient/resident on a routine basis every hour and reports resident information to CNA or RN/LPN Charge Nurse.
- Answers call lights in a timely manner to determine patient/resident needs. Request help from CNA as required.
- Passes prepares and collects food trays gives fresh water and ice assists in record keeping.
- Transports residents by wheelchair to/from dining and activities.
- Coordinates and/or leads activities per activity calendar at Village Assistant Living.
- Runs errands directs visitors and answers phone.
- Assists patient/resident with brushing/combing hair cleaning/trimming/painting nails etc. Ensures patient/resident is clean and dressed appropriately.
- Helps with laundry for the residents clothing and bedding as well as towels.
- Utilizes universal precautions and observes all fire/safety policies and procedures.
- Marks personal clothes/items of residents as required.
- Cleans wheelchairs and other items.
- Write letters and opens mail for residents as requested by residents.
- Achieves order and cleanliness in patient/resident room. Changes linens and makes bed. Cleans spills on the floor. Cleans and arranges closet arranges and straightens room.
- Conforms to all departmental policies/procedures and standards.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
- Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
- Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.
The responsibilities described above represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to perform all assigned responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- This position requires the level of education typically acquired by a course of study leading to a high school diploma or GED.
Knowledge and Skills (required unless otherwise noted):
- Beginner keyboarding skills
- Must have ability to follow instructions
- Must have excellent time management skills
- Must have multitasking abilities
- Must have telephone skills
- Must be able to work independently
- Must possess problem solving skills
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos.
- Ability to write simple sentences paragraphs and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in oneonone and small group situations to customers clients and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add and subtract twodigit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is done in client home or wherever client is located. (i.e. assisted living hospital nursing facility).
- Travel is required from client to client.
- Associate may have exposure to bodily fluids or any health condition the client might have.
- Universal precaution must always be followed.
- All associates may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
