- Applies Fire Protection Engineering work that generates the application of theories, principles, practical concepts, processes, and methods of fire prevention and fire phenomena related to, fire protection engineering science, engineering design, and design or evaluation of the designs of integrated systems involving suppression, detection, and electrical and electronic alarm systems, design standards and codes for fire protection engineering techniques and practices, human responses to emergency situations, fire tests and measurements, and system concepts of fire safety and methods of analysis and evaluation.
- Design overall fire protection systems, conduct investigations into post fire incidents, and provide specifications for building construction, exit and egress means, and mechanical systems. Examines the nature and characteristics of fire phenomena and the associated products of combustion. Determines how fires originate, spread, and are detected, controlled, and/or extinguished. Work includes the anticipation and prediction of fire behavior on materials, structures, machines, and apparatus to protect life and property.
- Provide fire protection and system safety engineering technical leadership, criteria and code interpretation, design and construction quality assurance, training and mentoring in the areas of fire prevention and systems safety design to initial planning team (IPT) architectural, engineering and project management staff within the Army Department of Public Works, the Vectrus Public Works Department, and the Fire Department. Also provides project management leadership and coordination within IPT, and communicate acceptable technical fire protection engineering and design requirements and performance standards to Architect Engineering (A-E) firms providing contract services.
- Utilize established guidelines to plan, formulate, and implement fire protection engineering strategies, goals, and program instructions. Serve as team lead for fire protection engineering support surveys and acceptance tests conducted on new and rehabilitated fire protection engineering systems. Review and evaluate project designs to ensure drawings, specifications, and supporting documents needed for projects are correct. Review designs of new and modified facilities throughout various stage of development to assure compliance with the NFPA Life Safety Codes and ensure various fire protection design criteria are met. Prepare Fire Protection design and construction documents, for new and renovation projects to various types of facilities, using the latest technological design and drafting tools. Determine work priorities and schedules for meeting milestones within time limitations.
