Job Summary
What Youll Do
Lead Enterprise-Scale Tech Debt Programs
- Define and execute the Ecommerce Tech Debt and Engineering Excellence strategy.
- Establish and drive multi-quarter roadmaps for modernization platform upgrades dependency management security remediation and architecture evolution.
- Partner with engineering leaders to prioritize and execute initiatives that improve system reliability maintainability scalability and developer productivity.
- Create visibility and accountability through measurable engineering health goals and KPIs.
Drive Technical Execution
- Partner closely with Engineering Managers Architects Staff Engineers and Product teams to remove technical bottlenecks and accelerate delivery.
- Evaluate architectural decisions and provide guidance on modernization strategies.
- Review designs participate in technical discussions and contribute to technical problem-solving when required.
- Be willing to dive into code troubleshoot critical issues validate technical approaches and help unblock teams when necessary.
Champion Engineering Excellence
- Establish engineering best practices across software development lifecycle testing CI/CD observability reliability security and operational excellence.
- Drive adoption of engineering standards and ensure consistency across teams.
- Promote a culture of accountability ownership and continuous improvement.
Build Data-Driven Engineering Organizations
- Define and operationalize engineering metrics that measure code quality technical debt delivery performance reliability and developer productivity.
- Develop executive-level reporting and dashboards that provide visibility into engineering health.
- Use data to drive prioritization investment decisions and organizational alignment.
Accelerate AI Adoption Across Engineering
- Champion the adoption of AI-assisted development practices across the organization.
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI for software development testing code modernization incident management documentation and developer productivity.
- Partner with engineering teams to establish best practices for responsible AI usage and measurable business outcomes.
Influence Across a Matrix Organization
- Drive alignment across platform teams architecture groups product organizations and business stakeholders.
- Represent Ecommerce engineering priorities and advocate for solutions that reflect real-world developer experiences.
- Build trusted relationships across teams and effectively influence technical decisions without direct reporting authority.
What Were Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering or related field.
- 10 years of software engineering experience with progressive technical leadership responsibilities.
- 5 years leading large-scale cross-functional technical programs.
- Strong hands-on software engineering background with deep expertise in Java and modern backend technologies.
- Experience working across web mobile and backend ecosystems in large-scale consumer-facing platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to understand review and contribute to production-quality code.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems cloud-native architectures APIs microservices CI/CD and observability practices.
- Exceptional understanding of Agile software development methodologies and large-scale program execution.
- Proven experience driving modernization technical debt reduction platform transformation or engineering productivity initiatives.
- Strong experience using software engineering metrics to drive decision-making and organizational improvements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence executive stakeholders and technical teams alike.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as an Engineering Manager Staff Engineer Principal Engineer or Technical Lead.
- Experience operating successfully within large matrix organizations.
- Experience leading engineering transformation programs in e-commerce or large-scale digital platforms.
- Experience with AI-powered developer tools and engineering productivity platforms.
- Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks mobile platforms cloud infrastructure and platform engineering practices.
- Experience driving adoption of developer productivity automation and engineering excellence initiatives at scale.
