Description

Provides Supervision and oversight for maintenance operations across schools and offices. Champions high standards of facilities maintenance across trades coordinating resources and guiding emergency response and site-based maintenance staff to ensure that every building consistently reflects a well-maintained secure and functional environment for students staff and the community. Coordinates efforts with licensed and unlicensed trades supervisors and staff. Performs other duties as assigned.



Responsibilities

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Coordinates maintenance activities with various trades workers and leadership to ensure continuity of operation and timely completion of work.
  • Meets with school and office administrators and staff regarding building maintenance issues or concerns. Serves as a liaison between school and office administrators maintenance teams and central office departments regarding building maintenance.
  • Conducts routine inspections of maintenance work performed by in house and vendor support staff at schools and offices to ensure adherence with trades-based standards procedures and schedules.
  • Establishes work schedules.Prioritizes and reviews assignments.Deploys maintenance employees after regular business hours as required. Supervises in-house and contractual service workers.
  • Supports emergency response efforts including weather-related events building closures or urgent facility needs.
  • Trains and supervises the training of new and current employees in maintenance practices trade shop coordination supplies tools and equipment and emergency/corrective maintenance procedures for mechanical equipment.
  • Reviews verifies and approves payroll records employee leave and vacation schedules.
  • Reviews and approves requisitions for supplies and services. Maintains files and prepares reports.
  • Participates in all maintenance related functions.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Training and Experience:

Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent. Three years of experience in building maintenance or a related field and successful leadership experience in facility management. Associate of Arts degree or the equivalent of two years of college coursework preferred.

Note: Other combination of applicable education training and experience which provide the knowledge skills and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

Licenses and Certificates:

Possession of a valid class C Maryland drivers license or an equivalent is required.

Possession of a Stationary Engineers License issued by Maryland State Board of Examining Engineers is preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of the methods practices materials supplies and equipment used in operating and maintaining schools offices and related facilities. Knowledge of HVAC systems and equipment. Knowledge of boiler plant operations. Knowledge of building maintenance. Thorough working knowledge of computers systems and be able to utilize computers as a record-keeping tool; be able to generate reports memos and letters.

Skill in providing maintenance services. Skill in leading or supervising others in the provision of maintenance services. Skill in performing building maintenance functions. Skill in operating boilers and related HVAC systems and equipment. Skill in maintaining records. Skill in training employees. Strong organizational interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.

Ability to plan coordinate and supervise building maintenance activities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers representatives of other agencies and departments and the public. Ability to represent the office at meetings. Ability to maintain confidential information.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The duties of this class require travel to and the inspection of work sites throughout Baltimore County. Must be able to climb stairs scaffolds and ladders to perform inspections and take measurements.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Persons appointed to this classification are designated as Essential Personnelandare required to work when schools and/or offices are closed during adverse weather conditions or any other emergency.

Persons appointed to this class are required to work during emergency events subject to call to duty and may be required to work beyond their normally scheduled hours with little or no advanced notice.

Persons appointed to this class will be required to work on the second shift.

Employees in this class may be assigned to work nights evenings weekends and/or holidays. Employees are subject to call to duty in emergencies and may be required to work beyond their regularly scheduled hours with little advanced notice.

  • All people employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools regular and temporary are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (per COMAR) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $109.

  • Official transcripts will be required upon hire and must be sent via escript/clearinghouse from your university.
