EIS Teacher Assistant
Job Summary
MISSION
Under the authority of the English International Stream (EIS) Coordinator the Kindergarten Teaching Assistant works alongside teachers to support the well-being safety and learning of young children. The assistant plays an active role in the daily life of the classroom contributing to the preparation and smooth running of learning activities and ensuring a clean safe and well-organised environment.
In particular the Teaching Assistant is expected to:
Support the physical emotional and social well-being of children throughout the day
Assist teachers during learning activities routines and transitions
Contribute to the preparation and organisation of materials needed for classroom activities
Contribute to the development of inquiry based projects including the delivery of some elements or workshops/atelier.
Ensure the safety and supervision of children at all times
Maintain the cleanliness and order of classrooms shared spaces and equipment during the school day
Work collaboratively with teachers and other staff in line with the schools educational values and expectations.
Work collaboratively as part of a team enabling the successful launch and development of the EIS.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Kindergarten Teaching Assistant supports teachers in the daily organisation and supervision of pupils and contributes to the smooth and safe running of the school particular the Teaching Assistant is expected to:
Supervise children during arrivals and departures
Support childrens personal hygiene including accompanying children to the toilet supervising handwashing and providing assistance where necessary
Assist children during meals and snack times
Support the organisation sorting and management of pupils work materials
Ensure the cleaning organisation and appropriate storage of classroom and school equipment
Maintain the cleanliness and order of the classroom and shared spaces during the school day
Supervise and support children during activities such as workshops library sessions celebrations and school events
Accompany and supervise children during school outings and excursions (walks visits performances etc.)
Prepare and organise materials required for learning activities
Monitor and accompany children during break times canteen periods rest or nap times and during arrival and departure on school transport
Assist children with changing clothes when required
Carry out other related duties as reasonably assigned by the EIS Coordinator or the School Management
Assist with EIS Open House visits and parent tours if required.
REQUIRED SKILLS EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION
Experience working with young children aged 2 to 5 years
A diploma or qualification in early childhood education would be a plus
Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a classroom environment
Professional discretion and sound judgement when working with children and families
Capacity for initiative and a degree of autonomy within the framework defined by the teaching team
A dynamic positive and engaged approach to daily work with young children
Knowledge of and compliance with food hygiene and safety regulations
Language requirements
English is the primary language of communication in the EIS. Candidates should be comfortable working in an English-speaking environment
While a high level of fluency is not required some functional ability in English and a willingness to develop confidence using English in daily classroom interactions are important
