THEATRE SCRUB NURSE
Job Summary
The Theatre Scrub Nurse is responsible for preparing the operating theatre for surgical procedures by ensuring all surgical instruments equipment and sterile supplies are ready and available. The Scrub Nurse assists surgeons during operations by maintaining a sterile environment handling surgical instruments and supporting the surgical team throughout procedures. The role requires maintaining high standards of patient care infection control and compliance with hospital protocols and safety standards.
- Prepare the operating theatre before surgery ensuring all surgical instruments consumables and equipment are sterile and functional.
- Maintain strict sterile techniques and infection prevention protocols throughout surgical procedures.
- Assist surgeons and the surgical team during operations by passing instruments sutures and other sterile supplies.
- Perform surgical counts for instruments needles and swabs according to hospital policy.
- Ensure adequate stock levels of theatre supplies and report shortages when necessary.
- Assist with patient positioning draping and preparation before surgery.
- Participate in and enforce the World Health Organization (WHO) Safe Surgical Checklist procedures.
- Provide accurate pre-operative and post-operative handovers to ward and recovery staff.
- Ensure all documentation related to surgical procedures is completed accurately and promptly.
- Support the theatre team in maintaining cleanliness and safety standards before during and after procedures.
- Respond effectively during emergency situations within the operating theatre.
- Follow hospital policies safety regulations and clinical governance standards at all times.
- Minimum 23 years of experience as a Theatre/Scrub Nurse
- Experience in multi-speciality surgical procedures preferred
- Certification in perioperative nursing is an advantage

- Recognised Degree/Diploma in Nursing
- Valid Registered Nurse license with the relevant Nursing Council

- Ability to work efficiently in high-pressure surgical environments
- Good understanding of emergency and perioperative patient care
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational and time-management abilities
- Computer literacy and documentation skills
