Job Summary
Steel Fixer
Reports to: Steel Fixer Supervisor / Site Foreman. Purpose: Cut bend position and secure steel reinforcement bars and mesh in accordance with drawings and specifications ready for concrete pouring.
- Interpret reinforcement drawings bar bending schedules and specifications to determine materials and cutting/bending requirements.
- Cut bend and fix reinforcement bars (rebar) and mesh to the correct size shape and position as specified.
- Tie and secure bars using wire clips or tack welding in accordance with specification and site standards.
- Fit spacers chairs and couplers to maintain correct concrete cover and alignment.
- Position pre-assembled cages and lift or rig reinforcement safely with banksman/slinger support.
- Check work against drawings and tolerances before sign-off and prior to concrete pour.
- Maintain a clean safe and organised work area and report defects or design queries to supervisors.
- Comply with all site health safety and environmental procedures and take part in toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Proven experience as a steel fixer on construction or civils sites.
- Ability to read and work from reinforcement drawings and bar bending schedules.
- Competent in cutting bending and tying rebar to specification and to required tolerances.
- Valid CSCS card for the relevant occupation.
- Physically fit and able to work at height in confined spaces and in all weather conditions.
- Desirable qualifications: CPCS or relevant slinger-signaller certification working-at-height ticket confined space entry ticket.
- Desirable experience: large infrastructure reinforced concrete frame or highways projects.
