ROLE SUMMARY:
As aFacilities Assistant at Kings College School Cascais you are the backbone of the schools daily operations. Your mission is to ensure a premium safe and inspiring learning environment for students and staff.
You will be the go-to person for maintaining the campuss high standardshandling everything from rapid-response repairs and event logistics to site security and safety compliance. This is a hands-on role that requires agility a proactive mindset and a commitment to excellence in one of Portugals most prestigious international schools.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintenance & Repairs: Perform basic maintenance tasks (e.g. changing light bulbs unblocking drains minor carpentry or painting) and report more complex issues to specialized contractors.
- Logistics & Events: Set up rooms and move furniture for teaching school events exams and extracurricular activities.
- Health & Safety: Conduct daily site walkabouts to identify hazards perform weekly compliance checks (fire alarms emergency lighting) and support emergency evacuation procedures.
- Security: Assist with the opening and locking up of school premises managing intruder alarms and monitoring site access for visitors and contractors.
- Grounds & Cleanliness: Ensure the school grounds are tidy and free of litter. Coordinate with cleaning teams to maintain high hygiene standards across the campus.
- Deliveries & Supplies: Accept and distribute internal/external mail and deliveries. Ensure supplies (like paper for photocopiers or hygiene products) are refilled.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- Experience: Previous experience in facilities maintenance caretaking or a similar hands-on role (ideally in an educational or hospitality setting).
- Language Skills: Proficiency in English is essential for communication within the school. Knowledge of Portuguese is highly valued for coordinating with local suppliers and contractors.
- Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of plumbing electricity and general DIY.
- Soft Skills: A can-do attitude ability to work independently and a commitment to child safeguarding and student wellbeing.
- Legal: Valid permission to work in the EU/Portugal.
