WELDING TECHNICIAN

Salary - Circa 32k (dependent on experience)

An exciting opportunity has arisen at FRP Technologies, based at our site in Coleshill, for an experienced Welder. FRP as a Group works across multiple sectors and provides products and services, including prototyping, to the medical, automotive and aerospace industries. Our Coleshill site focus on the Automotive work.

We are looking for a skilled MIG/TIG Welder / Fabricator to cut and join metals and other materials at our facility. You will operate appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a similar role and be fully competent in following all safety precautions associated with welding activities. The ideal candidate will also have a steady hand, great attention to detail and be proficient in welding material thickness 3mm to 16mm steel and 1.5mm to 10mm aluminium extrusions for crash testing.

Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is essential.

Responsibilities will include:

• Reading drawings and taking or reading measurements to plan layout and procedures;

• Determining the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements;

• Setting up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cutting materials with power saws to match measurements);

• Operating angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded;

• Aligning components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces;

• Welding components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead);

• Testing and inspecting welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws;

• Maintaining equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety;

• Carrying out the manufacturing and assembly of the Company s products in accordance with production drawings and specifications; and

• Working to set timescales and to the expected high quality standards.

Essential requirements

• Proven experience as a welder, supported with certificates. Professional certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) will be a plus.

• Experience of using a variety of welding equipment and procedures.

• Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)

• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.

• Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)

• Deftness and attention to detail.

• Proficient in English.
