Job Description:


A licensed and credentialed Physician Assistant (PA) offers diagnosis treatment consultation and followup under the guidance of one or more physicians within the clinic. The PA delivers age and specialtyappropriate medical care commensurate with their training level. As a seasoned professional the Nurse Practitioner assumes responsibility and accountability for applying the nursing process supervising clinical practice engaging in research providing consultative services serving as a liaison between departments educating leading and managing patient care across the healthcare continuum from preventive care through to discharge.


Position: ProviderOccupational Health Services

Department: OEM and Absence Management

Schedule: Full Time MondayFriday/day shift. Consideration given to 4 10hour shifts


Primary Responsibilities:


Clinical Practice

  • Provides direct care counseling and education to patients and families following established collaborative protocols and care standards.
  • Prioritizes appropriate and efficient patient care management considering time human resources supplies and equipment.
  • Conducts physical examinations and administers preventive health measures within defined guidelines and patient needs.
  • Orders interprets and evaluates relevant lab and diagnostic tests to assess patient conditions and healthcare requirements.
  • Based on diagnostic lab and physical assessment results arranges suitable care plans and followup.
  • Documents relevant patient care findings in medical records and maintains an interdisciplinary approach to care planning and communication by discussing patient data with appropriate healthcare professionals.
  • Evaluates patient care outcomes and adjusts care plans as necessary.
  • Seeks and provides consultative services as needed.
  • Incorporates concepts of health maintenance prevention and promotion into daily practice through patient education and counseling.
  • Demonstrates awareness of community resources and assists staff patients and families in effectively utilizing them.
  • Adapts care appropriately to the age groups of patients served and seeks assistance for patients outside of regular age groups.


Professional Development

  • Collaborates with physicians in developing implementing evaluating and revising nurse practitioner guidelines policies procedures and protocols.
  • Demonstrates leadership in problemsolving and directing designated personnel in clinical areas.
  • Stays updated on legislation affecting healthcare delivery systems and the role of nurse practitioners in hospital settings. Participates in nursing and hospital committees and provides relevant information as required.
  • Identifies personal learning needs and maintains current knowledge and competency in clinical practice.
  • Educates patients families and professionals through various means such as educational materials inservices lectures or publications.


Quality Assessment/Improvement and Research

  • Participates consistently in the quality assessment/improvement program for the service.
  • Identifies appropriate followup quality improvement projects or research studies based on findings.
  • Utilizes quality improvement data and research findings to improve patient care.
  • Participates in patient care research as per educational background and experience.


Requirements:

  • Expert clinical judgment and ability to be selfdirected and demonstrate initiative in an expanded role.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking problemsolving and conflictresolution skills.
  • Proficiency in the English language (verbal and written).
  • Application of adult learning principles to provide effective patient and/or family education.
  • Organizational skills to prioritize and complete assigned work efficiently.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to facilitate communication with healthcare team members patients and families.
  • Computer proficiency including accessing entering and interpreting computerized data/information.
  • Physical ability to meet core job responsibilities according to the demands of the practice setting and patient populations served.


Education:

  • A Masters degree in nursing is required. Completion of an accredited educational program for physician assistants is necessary.


Experience:

  • A minimum of three years of current clinical nursing experience and two years of adult practice experience are essential. Prior experience in Occupational Health is mandatory.


Certificates licenses and registrations:

  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with authorization by the Board of Registration in Nursing for an expanded role.
  • Registration with ANCC or another accrediting organization for physician assistants.
  • State of Massachusetts and DEA registration for prescription writing privileges.
  • Current BLS and ACLS Certification.
