The Governors staff includes offices for budgeting communications and outreach legal counsel boards and commissions legislative liaison operations policy and research and scheduling.The Office of Boards and Commissions oversees the appointment process for 330 Boards and Commissions for the Governors Office. Boards and Commissions is an external facing department in the Governors Office as they help the public navigate the appointment process. The ideal candidate for this position is organized a self-starter hard working calm under pressure has strong communications skills and has a positive outlook.


Summary of Functions:


You will help work with the Boards and Commission team to help oversee the appointment process for over 330 boards commissions task forces and committees across the state that are appointed by the Governor. Help make recommendations to the Governor and Chief of Staff on who should be appointed after robust vetting and recruitment processes. Work with the Agencies to ensure their recommendations are timely and thoughtful. Also help manage and improve Boards and Commissions processes. This role will help develop and enforce office policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and work on continued improvements to boards and commissions processes.



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Boards and Commissions team to recruit and recommend qualified individuals for appointments to the Governor and help oversee the appointment process this includes collaborating with different department contacts or external stakeholders to recruit candidates get recommendations and conduct interviews.

  • Provide guidance and leadership on the structure processes and best practices for board and commission appointments to external and internal stakeholders.

  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of potential appointees by actively engaging with community leaders industry experts and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Foster a relationship with and engage with State Agency personnel legislators and other stakeholders regarding applicants recommendations and appointments.

  • Utilize and update Salesforce to manage the entire appointment process.

  • Monitor and track the progress of appointments ensuring timely and accurate completion of all related activities.

  • Draft and execute memos briefs executive orders press releases presentations and senate letters.

  • Help manage the Senate Confirmation Process.

  • Navigate statutory requirements to ensure compliance with all appointments.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for all appointments and related activities.

  • Work closely with the Executive Assistant and the Co-Deputy Director of Boards and Commissions.

  • Foster positive relationships with key stakeholders including government officials community organizations and other relevant parties.

  • Ensure the website is up-to-date and follows accessibility guidelines and standards.

  • Regularly update content related to appointments and other relevant information.

  • Assist with the management of interns and oversee the Executive Internship program for the Office of Boards and Commissions

  • Collaborate on special projects including event planning and statewide outreach efforts.

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • Minimum of four years of professional experience in community engagement relations project management human resources or a related field.

  • Strong project management skills including multitasking problem-solving prioritization delegation and process creation.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changing conditions.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills necessary


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Salesforce or similar database management systems.

  • Experience working with diverse communities.

  • Knowledge of state legislative processes and Senate confirmations.

  • Bachelors degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
