Job Summary

Traffic Control & Engineering is responsible for administration engineering and operations related to the installation manufacturing maintenance and removal of signs flexible bollards moveable barriers in-house traffic sign production and other traffic control devices. The office draws on the expertise and talents of engineers sign designers planners inspectors IT experts analysts and others to help the agency achieve Vision Zero and other city goals.

Traffic Control & Engineering (TCE) is seeking a highly experienced and dedicated professional to serve as Assistant Deputy Director of Field Operations in the Bus Stop Management group. Reporting to program leadership the selected candidate will oversee a large team responsible for the production installation maintenance and repair of traffic control devices including traffic signs bus stop informational signs bus stop regulation signs structures and their supports citywide. The successful candidate will coordinate project implementation in collaboration with DOT crews and Department of Design and Construction (DDC) contractors while providing technical guidance to Bus Stop Management staff. Active participation in field meetings with construction contractors is required to ensure alignment compliance and timely delivery of projects. Key responsibilities include preparing daily performance indicators; compiling detailed weekly and monthly reports; reviewing and evaluating work orders; managing fleet operations; and overseeing material and tool requisitions to maintain operational continuity. The incumbent will also support Street Improvement Projects and Vision Zero initiatives and utilize the Sign Information Management System (SIMS) to track and streamline traffic sign installations. When required the individual will attend examinations before trial to represent the addition this role will supervise supervisory staff to ensure timely completion of assignments proper attendance management and accurate CityTime recordkeeping. Responsibilities include reviewing daily work assignments for compliance with standard operating procedures allocating tasks providing clear direction conducting supervisor training and scheduling work audits to verify proper installation relocation or removal of regulatory signage. This position requires a proactive leader with strong organizational and managerial skills and a demonstrated commitment to operational efficiency accountability and safety. The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively and inclusively fostering professional growth and maintaining effective communication with all stakeholders. They should also be highly resourceful in carrying out tasks and possess excellent communication skills. The candidate should exhibit strong leadership qualities with a proven track record of effective interaction with management and the ability to motivate staff. Additionally the ideal candidate should possess strong managerial and interpersonal skills and be proficient in DOTs Sign Information Management System (SIMS).

Additional Information:
This position is eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.

Qualifications :

1. A masters degree in transportation engineering mathematics urban planning architecture landscape architecture urban studies or related physical and social science fields; or

2. A baccalaureate degree in engineering from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience performing technical work on roadway transportation and traffic studies and area-wide traffic programs; or

3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in 2 above; or

4. An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in 2 above; or

5. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in 2 above.

SPECIAL NOTE:

In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements above:

To be assigned to Assignment Level II the candidate must have an additional year of experience as described in the Qualification Requirements listed under 2 above.

To be assigned to Assignment Level III the candidate must have an additional two years of experience as described in the Qualification Requirements listed under 2 above.
