Job Summary

SUMMARY:

Assist theHead BandDirector withmanaging the instrumental music and band program at assigned campus. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Instructional Strategies

  • Assistwith directing instrumental performers including marchingband concertband soloists and ensembles.
  • Assistwith establishing performance requirements enforce academic requirements and verify each students eligibility toparticipateinband.
  • Assist the Head Band Director to provide band participation at extracurricular events including concerts football games pep rallies parades and University Interscholastic League (UIL).
  • Assist with development and implementation plans that fulfill the requirements of the Districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Board policies and Administrative Regulations.
  • Work cooperatively with Special Education Teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of the staff to determine instructional goals objectives and methods according to District requirements.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans for in-person learning that fulfill the requirements of Districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.

Student Growth and Development

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books equipment and other instructional materials.
  • Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required.

Communication

  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents students colleagues and community members.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with State District and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Other

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Develop and maintain systems for retrieval of information in support of all programs; compile maintain file and secure all physical and computerized reports records and other required documents.
  • Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
  • Comply with all policies operating procedures legal requirements and verbal and written directives.
  • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
  • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited university

  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in All Level Music

  • Demonstrated competency in instrumental music

  • Current automated external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate

Experience:

  • Student teaching approved internship or related work experience

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of overall operation of instrumental music program
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules
  • Ability to develop budgets and manage funds
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Strong communication organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Frequent walking; repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists

Lifting:

  • Regular moderate lifting and carrying (1544 pounds)
  • Lift and move musical instruments

Environment:

  • Work to be completed on-site from assigned school or building
  • Work outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures (hot cold and inclement weather) humidity and prolonged sunlight; work on uneven or slippery surfaces
  • Frequent exposure to noise
  • No remote work
  • Frequent districtwide and statewide travel

Mental Demands:

  • Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress work; prolonged or irregular hours
