Are you a highly strategic and politically astute professional ready for a pivotal role within senior leadership The Strategic Coordinator reporting to the Branch Manager of Sport and Recreation is a key member of the Branch Managers Office driving strategy development issues management and the successful implementation and evaluation of complex branch and enterprise-wide initiatives and projects. This position requires expertise critical thinking and political awareness to conceptualize research and execute complex confidential and sensitive assignments.
Serving as the central coordinator for all branch activities including council reports performance reporting strategic planning budget development and financial oversight this position is often the first point of contact on all branch leadership communications. Working both independently and as a team member the Strategic Coordinator ensures the branch meets expectations and standards set by the corporation and senior leadership while collaborating across organizational lines to develop and facilitate effective solutions on Branch initiatives.
What will you do
- Lead strategic planning functions including defining goals measures and metrics and providing integral support for annual and long-range budget forecasts
- Provide strategic leadership research and analysis on a wide variety of issues at both the Branch and Corporate levels ensuring effective scope and best practices are followed
- Proactively identify and manage strategic issues independently researching recommending and implementing solutions on behalf of the Branch Manager
- Ensure timely communication of emerging and sensitive issues to the Branch Manager and appropriate Senior Leadership
- Oversee and manage the preparation of all governance documentation including reviewing and editing Council/Committee/ELT reports and preparing briefing notes and memos for the Branch Manager
- Conceptualize and lead complex confidential and politically sensitive projects coordinating managing and monitoring all project activities
- Act as the primary Branch representative on City Committees and corporate initiatives fostering collaboration across organizational lines and with external partners
- Serve as the principal consultant and advisor to the Branch Manager on problem formulation solution strategies and the evaluation of outcomes
- Drive continuous improvement by conducting environmental scans identifying opportunities for process enhancements and making recommendations on operational efficiency and effectiveness
- Support and reinforce organizational culture and values by engaging staff ensuring competencies and actively promoting integration and teamwork across the corporation
- University degree including Commerce Public Administration Social Sciences (Political Science Sociology)
- Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible strategic and management experience
Skills required for success:
- Strategic Acumen and Political Awareness: Demonstrate high political acumen analytical skills for sensitive issues and the ability to advise senior leaders alongside the proven capacity to quickly learn and adapt in fast-paced deadline-driven environments covering areas like political analysis HR and communications
- Planning and Execution Expertise: Possess proven knowledge and experience in business strategic planning implementation approaches project management processes and administering multiple projects effectively
- Effective Communication and Consultation: Exhibit advanced communication skills including exceptional listening presentation and writing abilities demonstrated at a highly consultative level with experience in report writing Council/Committee activities and municipal administration
- Adaptability and Judgement: Function comfortably and effectively in dynamic complex and sometimes-ambiguous settings exercising good judgment and a measured approach to managing stress and time while using a future-focused proactive approach (systems thinking) to develop innovative plans

Conditions of employment & work environment:
- Up to: 1 permanent full-time position
- Hours of work: 36.9 hours per week Monday - Friday
- Salary: $92945.89 - $116185.25 (Annually)
- This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and office
- This position is eligible for the EDO program (Earned Day Off)
