Job Summary
The Team
Court Services Branch delivers court administration services across British Columbia supporting the Provincial Court Supreme Court and Court of Appeal through registry operations trial support and courthouse services. As a servant of the court the team works collaboratively to ensure timely equitable access to justice while providing professional and respectful administrative support that upholds the independence of the judiciary.
The Role
The Administrator Criminal Programs position at the Victoria Law Courts plans organizes and manages the daily administration support services within the criminal section of the registry. The registry consists of a team of up to 10 Registry and Court/Registry clerks. This includes scheduling and providing direction to the Justices of the Peace in the criminal section. The position is also responsible for supervising the criminal registry work unit and ensuring that technical procedures are carried out in accordance with Court Services policies and procedures. The Administrator is a critical part of daily operations including front counter coverage email and report processing and criminal document typing in addition to their Administrator duties. The Administrator also performs independent judicial and administrative duties as a Justice of the Peace within the registry
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent preferably supplemented by courses in business or public administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- 1 year of experience working with Court related documentation and processes.
- Experience in giving functional daily guidance and feedback to colleagues.
- Experience using computers and software programs (e.g. Windows Word Excel Civil and Criminal electronic tracking systems).
Preferences may be given to applicants with:
- 1 year or more of supervisory experience.
- Experience working with Justice Information System (JUSTIN)
- Experience with Court Clerk Desktop (CCD)
- Experience as a Court Clerk
- Experience as a Justice of the Peace in British Columbia
Provisos:
- Must pass enhanced security check.
- May be required to travel.
- Maybe be required to work flexible hours.
- May be required to work overtime.
- May be required to work in other areas of Court Services Branch.
- Will be required to work on a rotational schedule as late Justice of the Peace within the registry.
- Must have or be able to qualify for signing authority as Justice of the Peace of the Supreme Court of British Columbia and Justice of the Peace of the Provincial Court of British Columbia within 6 months of appointment to the position.
