Compensation Range
The base pay scale for this position is $147000.00 - $224250.00. In addition this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors including but not limited to: scope of role level of experience education accomplishments internal equity budget and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.What you will be doing
Director of Operational Excellence
Operational Excellence (OE) at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is charged with optimizing quality efficiency and performance across the enterprise enabling continued success for the organization and ensuring an optimal patient experience. The OE team thinks beyond what is expected from simplifying patient registration and decreasing operating room turnover time to streamlining the discharge process. The OE department is highly visible collaborating closely with the HSS executive team and other clinical and business leaders throughout the organization. As a part of this team you will be an essential resource helping our hospital stay on top of our game so we can ensure our patients do the same.
Job Summary:
The Director Performance Insights will lead the development of HSSs enterprise performance intelligence capability transforming data into actionable insights that inform strategic prioritization operational decision-making and execution.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Operational Excellence Strategic Execution this role will serve as a critical partner in linking strategy data and execution across the organization. The Director will oversee the design and deployment of decision support tools (e.g. X-ray) guide data product prioritization in partnership with IT and business leaders and generate insights that shape enterprise initiatives and performance improvement efforts. This role will also serve as a core partner to IT and Digital Transformation leaders serving as the Operational Excellence lead for the Digital Patient Journey program bridging the gap between operational change management and the digital experiences we are creating for our patients.
This role extends beyond reportingacting as a strategic thought partner to leadership by identifying opportunities structuring initiatives and ensuring that data-driven insights translate into measurable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Decision Support & Tool Development
Lead the design development and rollout of enterprise decision support tools (e.g. X-ray) enabling real-time visibility into operational and strategic performance
Partner with IT data and digital teams to define requirements prioritize enhancements and ensure successful deployment and adoption
Ensure tools are intuitive actionable and embedded into leadership workflows and governance processes
Data Product Strategy & Prioritization
Partner with IT Data and functional leaders to define and prioritize the enterprise analytics roadmap for the Digitally Enabled Patient Journey
Translate business needs into clearly defined data products aligned with strategic priorities and operational impact
Establish governance and prioritization frameworks across Operations for analytics and reporting investments
Insight Generation & Strategic Analytics
Proactively identify trends risks and opportunities across access throughput utilization patient experience and financial performance
Conduct deep-dive analyses to diagnose performance gaps and uncover root causes
Synthesize complex data into clear executive-ready insights that inform decision-making
Initiative Design & Performance Enablement
Partner with service lines and functional leaders to translate insights into structured initiatives and program
Help define problem statements success metrics and measurement frameworks for enterprise initiatives
Support initiative design by identifying key levers benchmarks and expected impact
Partner with Finance to quantify the impact of initiatives and ensure alignment with financial and operational goals
Establish mechanisms to track outcomes and ensure sustained performance improvement
Enterprise Performance Management
Define and operationalize key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned with organizational strategy
Develop and maintain enterprise dashboards and performance reporting frameworks
Support regular performance reviews with leadership providing insights and recommended actions
Cross-Functional Partnership & Influence
Serve as a strategic thought partner to clinical operational and administrative leaders
Bridge operational stakeholders and technical teams to ensure alignment between needs and solutions
Promote a data-driven culture by embedding insights into decision-making and governance forums
External Benchmarking & Market Insight
Incorporate external benchmarks and market insights to contextualize performance and identify opportunities for improvement and differentiation
Education- Required:
Bachelors degree (BA)
Master of Business Administration (MBA) Masters PhD in Management operations or related topics
Skills & Experience Required:
810 years of experience in strategy analytics operational excellence or performance management in complex organizations (healthcare preferred)
Demonstrated ability to translate data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations
Experience with decision support tools and data visualization platforms (e.g. Tableau Power BI or similar)
Experience partnering with IT and data teams to define requirements and prioritize analytics or data product roadmaps
Strong business and financial acumen with the ability to connect insights to operational and economic impact
Excellent executive communication and presentation skills
Proven ability to influence stakeholders and drive alignment across cross-functional teams
Ability to operate in a fast-paced evolving environment with a high degree of ambiguity
High emotional intelligence and ability to collaborate with both clinical and administrative stakeholders
Skills & Experience Preferred
Experience in coaching junior team members through complex tasks improving the quality of their deliverables and being a trusted mentor to junior team members
Experience working in healthcare systems and hospitals deep knowledge in hospital operations
Familiarity with Epic EMR
