SUMMER STRINGS ORCHESTRA TEACHER (3 Positions) District-Wide Summer Program
Program Dates: June 29 2026 July 2 2026
Position Type: Temporary/Seasonal (Summer) Three (3) identical positions
Assignment: One of three ensembles (Beginner Intermediate Advanced)
Location: District-Wide (site assigned based on program needs)
Total Instructional Time: 13 hours Compensation: $40/hour ($520 per teacher)
Reports To: Fine & Performing Arts Director and/or Summer Program Site Coordinator Position Summary The Summer Strings Orchestra Teacher leads one assigned string orchestra ensemble (beginner intermediate or advanced) during a one-week summer program. Teachers plan instruction and repertoire appropriate to the ensemble level build musicianship and ensemble skills and prepare students for an informal recital at the conclusion of camp. The role includes student supervision and maintaining a positive learning environment grounded in mutual respect.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teachers are responsible for the following including but not limited to: Select developmentally appropriate repertoire aligned to the assigned ensemble level (beginner intermediate or advanced). Plan and deliver curriculum and daily activities for the assigned group including warm-ups technique rehearsal routines and musicianship-building experiences. Lead the ensemble in an informal recital/performance at the end of the camp week. Establish and maintain strong classroom routines manage student behavior and foster a safe inclusive environment and a classroom culture of mutual respect. Supervise students during break times including monitoring students outside as assigned. Collaborate with Summer Strings staff and program leadership to ensure consistent expectations and a high-quality program experience. Required Compliance and Clearances Completion of a CORI check (required). State fingerprinting must be completed at the employees own expense (required).
Qualifications Required: Demonstrated ability to teach and rehearse string orchestra ensembles. Strong classroom management and student supervision skills. Ability to plan instruction and repertoire appropriate to student skill level.
Preferred: Public school and/or youth ensemble teaching experience. Experience differentiating instruction within mixed-ability string groups.
