The Opportunity:
The SEI Instructional Aide will be responsible for assisting in the instruction of English Learner (EL) students through Sheltered English Immersion methodology. The candidate will work collaboratively with the classroom teacher to provide instruction to individual or small groups of students in the classroom; prepare instructional materials; attend meetings; and perform a variety of routine duties as assigned. The Instructional Aide should be familiar with the WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards and the MA Curriculum Frameworks. The candidate will demonstrate high expectations for students be effective in assisting the teacher and immigrant families and help to create an environment that fosters intellectual curiosity respect and cultural sensitivity.
Your Skill Set:
As the incoming SEI Instructional Aide you will possess many though perhaps not all of the following characteristics and qualifications:
- Associates degree or 48 college credits from an accredited college or university with courses in second language acquisition and/or education preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience working in a linguistically diverse or urban setting preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A willingness to engage in further training and coursework to build instructional capacity to meet the needs of all learners.
- Culturally responsive and attentive to the needs of diverse families and educators.
- Proficiency in English and fluency in a language other than English (Spanish Portuguese Korean Mandarin Haitian Creole Somali Arabic or other language) preferred but not required.
