Position Summary:
Teacher will develop in each student an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each student to cultivate physical fitness hygienic habits and good social and emotional adjustment; to discover and develop talents of students in physical achievement; to develop strength skill agility poise and coordination in individual dual and team physical activities and sports in accordance with each students ability.

Performance Responsibilities:
- Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness health education rhythms and dance and individual dual or team sports utilizing course of study adopted by Colorado
Professional:
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program.
- Analyzes demonstrates and explains basic skills knowledges and strategies of formal sports games rhythms and fundamentals of body movement.
- Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student to the extent feasible.
- Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
- Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly productive environment in the physical education areas.
- Evaluates each students growth in physical skills knowledge and contribution in team sports.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve health attitude and learning problems.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Performs other duties as many from time to time be assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrators
Other Expectations:
- Actively pursue professional development opportunities in specific content area
- Participate in and contributes to programs and activities that enhance LSE outside of instructional hours
- Follow policies established by the LSE Board of Directors Aurora Public Schools and Colorado State mandated school guidelines except where LSE has received waivers
- Complete other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree with major or minor in Physical Education
- For those teachers with specific coaching assignments physical stamina and skill and endorsed in specific coaching area
- Entrepreneurial outlook and charter school commitment
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Strong self-starter; able to work with limited direction
- Ability to apply superb judgment
- Willing to work and excel in a very diverse student environment
- CPR certification (LSE will provide necessary resources to become certified)
Preferred:
- Active Colorado Teaching License (Initial/Alt Pro or Natl)
- Secondary Endorsement
- Experience with charter schools
- Experience in teaching secondary students
Condition of Employment
As a condition of employment the individual selected for this position will be expected to complete the APS-sponsored Linguistically Diverse Educator (LDE) Certificate Program within the first three years of employment. New hires are expected to begin this program during the 2026-2027 school year.
