Job Summary
Position Title: Instructional Aide
Reports to: Principal
Department: Special Services
Position Category: Permanent/non-exempt/full-time/10-month contract
Position Summary: The Instructional Aide will provide physical and instructional support to students. They will assist in implementation of classroom programs including self-help behavior management instructional programs and additional duties focused on student success. The Aide will work under general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of certified teachers.
Job Scope: This position has no direct supervisory authority
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the teacher(s) with instructional materials and equipment administrative records and learning environments.
- Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom
- Guide independent study enrichment work and remedial work as assigned by the teacher
- Help manage behavior of students in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct
- Assist with large group activities such as reading aloud drill work and story telling
- Assist in the implementation of therapy programs developed by support staff
- Correct papers supervise testing and check makeup work as assigned by the teacher
- Help supervise students throughout the school day inside and outside the classroom including lunchroom bus/van for fieldtrips and recess duty
- Provide interventions for at-risk students demonstrating behavior concerns in and out of the classroom.
- Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students
- Assist and serve as the chief source of information to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher
- Assist with implementation of lesson plans as needed
- Implement tailored instructional strategies as outlined in student Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to support academic social and behavioral goals.
- Collect and record accurate data on student progress and behavior to assist the lead teacher in monitoring growth and adjusting intervention plans.
- Strictly adhere to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and district policies regarding the confidentiality of student records ensuring that sensitive information including IEPs and behavioral data is shared only with those authorized.

- Participate in staff development training programs faculty meetings and special events as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal

Environment:Work is located on campus site in a classroom environment; regular exposure to noise
Mental Demands:Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
Minimum Education Experience and Certification:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associates degree two years of study at an institute of higher learning or have met formal academic assessment required by TEA preferred
Skills and Capabilities:
- Ability to and familiarity with working with special needs children
- Knowledge of core academic subjects assigned
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Must have or be willing to receive training in CPI Autism and Behavior Intervention
