Whats the role
As a Lawyer / Senior Lawyer Mortgages & Consumer Credit youll provide practical legal and regulatory advice across Westpacs home lending business supporting the home ownership journey end to end. This is a hands-on advisory role covering the full home lending lifecycle. Youll support teams across Mortgages with day-to-day legal advice helping manage legal and regulatory risk while balancing commercial objectives and customer outcomes. The role suits someone who enjoys problem solving working collaboratively with stakeholders at a similar level and providing clear pragmatic advice in a fast-moving environment

What do I need
  • 6 plus years PQE with flexibility depending on capability
  • Consumer credit experience is ideal but broader banking credit advisory or litigation backgrounds will be considered
  • Experience in inhouse legal teams or law firms supporting regulated businesses
  • Strong judgement in identifying and managing legal and reputational risk
  • Ability to provide clear practical legal advice to nonlawyers
  • Exposure to consumer credit regulation (including NCCP Act); ASIC Act and Privacy Act exposure desirable
  • Mortgages home lending or broader retail banking experience is beneficial
  • A practical customerfocused legal thinker who knows when to act independently and when to escalate
