Job Summary
Are you looking for a fun exciting summer internship working with children and teens TheDeerfield Public Library is looking for an intern to work in the Youth Services department. The responsibilities of this position include assisting with Summer Reading registration and tracking progress as well as providing training support and scheduling for our teen volunteers. Candidates must be friendly and outgoing and have good communication and organizational skills.
Timeframe: May 27 2026 - August 14 2026
Schedule: Approximately 20 hours per week including daytime evening and weekend shifts.
Monday Wednesday Friday: 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Saturday: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Note: Week 1 is a training and onboarding week with flexible scheduling.
Compensation: $16.50 per hour
What Youll Do Every Day:
Provide excellent customer service to patrons and staff in-person via telephone and/or online communication.
Assist with the administration of the Youth Services Summer Reading Program including:
Staffing the summer reading desk.
Enrolling patrons in the program.
Assisting with library programs.
Train support and schedule teen volunteers in assisting with the Summer Reading Program.
Assist with clerical tasks stocking supplies and maintaining the appearance of public areas.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum age of 18.
High school diploma or GED.
Comfortable engaging with children of all ages.
Ability to provide excellent customer service.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to type and enter data into a computer accurately.
