About the Team

At the NYC Department of Buildings we are responsible for ensuring the safe and lawful use of buildings and properties by enforcing the NYC Construction Codes Energy Code and Zoning Resolution. We facilitate compliant development with integrity efficiency and professionalism. The Licensing Investigations Unit of the New York City Department of Buildings safeguards the integrity of New York Citys construction industry by ensuring that licensed professionals meet and maintain the highest standards of competency compliance and ethical conduct.

Position Responsibilities

The Investigative Intern will assist investigators and supervisory staff in reviewing complaints conducting background research analyzing documentation and preparing case materials related to licensing compliance and potential violations of the NYC Construction Codes and related regulations. This internship provides hands-on exposure to regulatory enforcement investigative research and administrative processes within a large municipal agency.

Under the direction and supervision of the Director Licensing Investigations the Intern will:

- Research request and obtain relevant documentary evidence from individuals and businesses.

- Ability to comprehend New York City Administrative Codes Laws Rules and Regulations as well as DOB policies and procedures.

- Utilize electronic research databases to investigate pending applicants.

- Utilizes computer systems to assist in the processing of investigations and maintain case records.

- Respond to and address written and verbal inquiries from the public.

- Work on various special projects and tasks assigned by the Director of Licensing Investigations Unit


Major/ Field of Study

- Law Criminal Justice or related fields.

Qualifications :

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June - August each year.
