The Role
We are seeking an experienced knowledgeable and engaging Middle School ELA Teacher to join the English Department. The successful candidate will teach English Language Arts to students in Grades 68 supporting the development of strong literacy foundations analytical reading skills and clear written and verbal communication. The role requires a teacher who can inspire curiosity in literature and language while helping students build the academic skills necessary for success in high school and beyond.
The position involves delivering engaging lessons that develop reading comprehension vocabulary development grammar structured writing and critical thinking. The teacher will guide students as they explore a range of literary genres and informational texts helping them build confidence in discussion interpretation and written expression.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Teach high-quality Middle School ELA classes across Grades 68.
- Deliver engaging lessons that develop reading comprehension vocabulary grammar literary analysis and structured writing.
- Encourage students to explore both classic and contemporary literature while developing confidence in discussion and interpretation.
- Use varied instructional strategies to support diverse learning needs and learning styles.
- Incorporate technology and modern learning resources to enhance instruction and student engagement.
Curriculum Development
- Contribute to the design and ongoing development of Middle School English curricula aligned with international standards.
- Develop units that connect literature to broader historical cultural and interdisciplinary themes.
- Ensure curriculum progression prepares students for the academic expectations of High School ELA programmes.
Student Assessment and Support
- Assess student progress through written assignments projects presentations and assessments.
- Provide constructive feedback that supports students in developing reading writing and analytical skills.
- Identify students who require additional support or academic challenge and provide appropriate guidance.
Co-Curricular Activities
- Support English-related activities such as reading clubs debate drama creative writing or journalism.
- Contribute to school events that promote literacy storytelling performance and public speaking.
Professional Collaboration
- Work closely with English and Humanities colleagues on curriculum planning shared assessments and interdisciplinary initiatives.
- Participate actively in departmental meetings professional development and whole-school activities.
Classroom Environment
- Maintain a positive organised and stimulating classroom environment.
- Encourage respectful discussion curiosity and independent thinking.
- Ensure learning resources and materials are used effectively and responsibly.
Qualifications and Experience
- Essential Requirements
A degree in English Literature Education or a related field. - A recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE QTS state certification or national teaching licence (not TEFL/TESOL).
- Experience teaching English Language Arts at the Middle School level.
- Strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for literature reading and writing instruction.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience teaching in an international school environment.
- Familiarity with inquiry-led concept-based or student-centred teaching approaches.
- A demonstrated ability to support diverse learners in multicultural classrooms.
