GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


The Wyoming Department of Corrections Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as Deputy Warden. This position plays a vital role in the overall operation of the facility by overseeing the administration supervision coordination and evaluation of all programming staff and services.

The Deputy Warden leads all phases of inmate programming including staff and inmate orientation direction training supervision and performance evaluation while continuously monitoring and improving the facilitys programming plan. This role works closely with facility staff to support inmate classification and reclassification processes coordinate programs and job assignments conduct program reviews and assist with the resolution of minor and general disciplinary reports and grievances.

This position is an at-will appointment and serves at the discretion of the Director of Corrections. Housing may be provided for this position.

  • Responsible for managing the administration supervision coordination and monitoring of the activities of the team(s) and/or program(s) which include but are not limited to:
  • Review Investigation Teams
  • Risk/need assessments case planning and correctional programming for case management
  • Community-Based Corrections Programs
  • Education Programs
  • Medical and Dietary Departments
  • Staff Training
  • Quality Assurance Team
  • Inmate Work Assignments
  • Security Functions
  • Restricted Housing program
  • Inmate On-The-Job Training Program
  • Inmate Recreation Program and others.
  • Manages the development of various related tasks involving receiving offenders maintaining their needs and services and designing their future activities toward their rehabilitation during incarceration.
  • Fosters good communications and working relationships with all institutional department heads and other Wyoming DOC staff.
  • Ensures Operations meet all standards required by Wyoming DOC policy state and federal laws and other regulations that may apply.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES:



Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelors degree experience in case management and a minimum of 3 years of high-level supervisory experience in a correctional setting including working as an Associate Warden or higher.

  • Skill in interpersonal communications

  • Ability to manage and supervise staff and inmates
  • Ability to identify and correct inappropriate inmate behavior


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:
Bachelors Degree (typically in Criminal Justice)

Experience:
3-5 years of progressive work experience in a Correctional Setting with acquired knowledge at the level of a Correctional Captain or Program Manager

Certificates Licenses Registrations:All candidates must have/or be eligible to obtain Certified Correctional Executive Certification within eighteen (18) months of employment.

OR

Education & ExperienceSubstitution:
6-8 years of progressive work experience in a Correctional Setting with acquired knowledge at the level of a Correctional Captain or Program Manager

Certificates Licenses Registrations:
All candidates must have/or be eligible to obtain Certified Correctional Executive Certification within eighteen (18) months of employment.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Lifting/grasping up to 20 pounds without assistance on an occasional to regular basis
  • Walking on cement floors on an occasional to regular basis
  • Walking up and down stairs on an occasional basis
  • Stooping bending kneeling crouching on an occasional basis
  • Reaching on a regular basis
  • Typing/Repetitive motion on a frequent basis
  • Talking/hearing on a frequent basis
  • Seeing: the visual ability to perform an activity such as analyzing data and figures viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading
  • Occasional travel
