Description:
The Supervisor of Pupil Services coordinates the Ashtabula County ESC special education and preschool classroom in each district on all aspects ofspecial education and preschool to ensure all students receive appropriate and effective educational and behavioral programming.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in educational administration or special education
- Three to five years related experience
- Appropriate state of Ohio certification/license
- Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing with a diverse group of colleagues parents families and community members
- Effective active listening skills
- Organizational and problem solving skills
- Knowledge of public school law policies and practices
- Knowledge of development of behavior plans
- Knowledge of multiple intelligence
- Time management skills attention to detail and ability to work independently
Major Responsibilities:
The below lists are not ranked in order of importance.
- Assist in training and supervising all assigned teachers in assigned buildings.
- Meet with classroom teachers and principals to discuss individual programs to be designed for children who will receive instruction with particular emphasis being given to new teachers and those with special instructional needs.
- Recommend methods and teaching strategies to be used and evaluate the methods on an ongoing basis with each special education teacher in the assigned buildings.
- Evaluate and recommend to the principal materials necessary for quality instruction.
- Act as liaison between special education teachers administrators and classroom teachers.
- Maintain ongoing evaluations of assigned classroom personnel.
- Ensure the safety of students.
- Attend meetings and inservices as required.
- Assist teachers to enhance their teaching skills through observation consultation and model teaching techniques.
- Plan special education inservice education programs and coordinate attendance of teachers.
- Assist the Director of Human Resources in recruiting and selecting teachers needed for special education classes.
- Attend meetings or workshops of programs for special education which may be held on a local regional or statewide level.
- Coordinate efforts and services with other special education related services and special education supervisors.
- Promote good public relations by personal appearance attitude and conversation.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct inservice workshops for assigned teachers.
- Serve as a role model for students.
- Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner.
- Prepare and maintain an official roster of each special education class.
- Orient and familiarize potential substitute teachers about the nature and needs of special education children the difficulties they might experience when they substitute in a special education class and how such difficulties can be avoided.
- Be familiar with all local district policies regarding program development and expansion teacher meetings classroom visitations etc.
- Assess annually each classroom unit to determine the degree to which minimum standards are being met.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
Additional Working Conditions:
- Occasional exposure to blood bodily fluids and tissue
- Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions
- Occasional interaction among disobedient children
- Frequent travel
