Backend Development Intern | Lisbon

Our Unbabel division is looking for a curious and motivated Backend Development Intern to join our Engineering Team. As we deliver seamless scalable translation solutions across platforms for enterprise partners youll gain hands-on experience designing and building backend systems that power intelligent multilingual workflows.

Responsibilities:

• Work with engineers to design and implement new backend features and integrations.

• Help maintain test and optimize our codebases.

• Collaborate to solve real problems and deliver practical solutions for our business partners.

• Participate in code reviews and team discussions to learn best practices in code quality and architecture.

• Assist with troubleshooting and debugging backend systems.

• Document your work to help improve our teams processes.

• Learn about cloud platforms API design and database structures (with mentorship!).

Must Have

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science Software Engineering or a similar technical field or equivalent practical experience.

• Some programming experience (Python or another language).

• Understanding of basic software engineering concepts and willingness to learn about REST APIs and system integrations.

• Interest in working with databases (e.g. SQL NoSQL).

• Good communication skills in English.

• Collaborative mindset and motivation to ask questions and seek feedback.

Nice to Have

• Exposure to Python frameworks (FastAPI Flask Django etc.).

• Familiarity with version control (Git).

• Awareness of cloud platforms (AWS GCP etc.) containerization (Docker) or microservices.
