About the College:

The College of Health and Human Development (HHD) at California State University Northridge (CSUN) is committed to student success. We are proud of our diverse faculty and staff. We have 50 staff members and a faculty of over 350 full- and part-time academic professionals who provide and support education advising and mentorship opportunities to over 6500 students enrolled in courses on campus and online. The Department of Kinesiology at California State University Northridge offers a Bachelors and Master of Science degree in Kinesiology as well as a Bachelors of Arts degree in Dance and a Masters of Science degree in Athletic Training. It is dedicated to advancing the study of human movement and performance. The department supports a diverse curriculum that includes areas such as Applied Fitness Dance Exercise Science Physical Education and Sport Studies. For more information about the Department of Kinesiology see: Department of Kinesiology at California State University Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member in Adapted Physical Activity Motor Behavior and Sport & Exercise Psychology at the rank of assistant professor. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and have research interests in one or more of these areas: Adapted Physical Activity Motor Behavior and Sport & Exercise Psychology.

Secondary teaching responsibilities may include other closely related courses offered within the department. The typical teaching load is 12 units per semester. Faculty are also responsible for student advisement supervision of graduate research projects maintaining active scholarly research and publication and seeking grants and external funding in the related addition to teaching the position requires weekly office hours attending faculty meetings participation in assessment of student learning and service to the department college and university. The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays evenings weekends and/or online and will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion. Given CSUNs commitment to excellence in teaching research and engagement in a diverse environment the successful candidate will help the Department achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching student mentorship scholarship and service.

Required Qualifications:

  • A doctorate in Kinesiology or a closely related field of study. Candidates in the process of completing a doctoral degree will be considered but the degree must be conferred before the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrate the potential to conduct research procure external funding and engage in scholarly activities in their areas of expertise.
  • College or University-level teaching experience or potential to teach in-person hybrid or online courses.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise and ability to teach two or more areas: Adapted Physical Activity Motor Behavior Sport & Exercise Psychology.
  • Ability to teach closely related courses (Adapted Aquatics Data Science Epidemiology in physical activity).
  • Clinical or field experience in the related subject area.
  • Evidence of research ability and ongoing scholarly productivity.
  • Research/lab experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience adopting inclusive approaches to mentoring.
  • Relevant credentials or certifications (ATRIC CMPC CIFT or equivalent).
  • Broad and balanced disciplinary knowledge across biological socio-cultural and aesthetic dimensions of human movement.
  • Evidence of effective engagement or potential to engage with a diverse student body.
  • Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes.
  • Experience creating student-centered learning environments.
