Job Description:
L3Harris Technologies is seeking an experienced Lead Technical Writer to manage technical writing responsibilities across the Resilient Missile Warning & Missile Tracking (RMWT) Ground Management & Integration (GMI) contract. The Lead Technical Writer is responsible for overseeing and directing the creation development planning writing and editing of documentation for all phases of Technical Order (TO) development and sustainment in accordance with MIL-STDs TO 00-5 series and all other AF compliance directives. This position involves leading a team of technical writers managing budgets schedules and ensuring the timely delivery of all project deliverables.
Essential Functions:
The Lead Technical Writer duties include but are not limited to:
- Assign tasks to technical writers monitor progress and provide mentorship and training to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met.
- Manage the budget for all technical writing projects ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and effectively.
- Develop and maintain project schedules ensuring that all deadlines are met and that any potential delays are communicated and mitigated.
- Create develop plan write and edit documentation for all phases of TO development.
- Ensure all documentation adheres to MIL-STDs TO 00-5 series and other AF compliance directives.
- Develop and/or follow style guides associated MIL-STDs for TO production and TO processes while understanding customer requirements related to writing task assignments.
- Utilize extensive knowledge and understanding of engineering specifications (drawings A-level specifications test procedures etc.) to translate technical data into user documentation.
- Work as part of a cross-functional team including Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to accomplish technical writing assignments.
- Perform thorough research using technical data or commercial sources and coordinate with system engineers to support technical writing tasks.
- Manage on-time deliveries of all contract deliverables.
- Multitask prioritize and be self-motivated to meet project timelines and deadlines.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related lieu of a degree minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Active Secret security clearance
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Independently interpret and follow written technical instructions and procedures as well as the ability to work harmoniously in a team environment with government customers and other contractors.
- Strong technical background ability to translate technical and subject matter expert information into written procedural content as required for technical writing task assignments.
- Strong writing editing and proofing skills.
- Experience with professional Adobe Acrobat PDF software.
- DoD work experience developing and sustaining TO baselines for Air Force and Space Force weapon systems.
- Strong expertise in structured authoring tools.
- Strong expertise in managing Technical Order development.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements the salary range for this role is $100500 - $186500 This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
