Head of Direct Sales Senior Vice President of Direct Sales - North America

Position Summary

The Head of Direct Sales Senior Vice President of Sales for NWS is responsible for leading and scaling the companys direct sales organization to drive revenue growth market expansion and profitability across all direct customer segments. This executive role owns the direct sales strategy execution and performance ensuring alignment with corporate objectives vendor partnerships and operational excellence. The SVP will build high-performing sales teams optimize go-to-market motions and strengthen customer relationships in a fast-paced telecommunications distribution environment.


Key Responsibilities

Sales Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute the overall direct sales strategy to achieve revenue margin and market share goals.
  • Lead global direct sales teams including field sales inside sales and strategic account management.
  • Establish clear sales objectives KPIs compensation plans and performance management frameworks.
  • Drive a culture of accountability collaboration and continuous improvement across the sales organization.

Revenue Growth & Market Expansion

  • Identify and pursue new revenue opportunities customer segments and vertical markets.
  • Expand wallet share within existing accounts through cross-selling and upselling of products solutions and services.
  • Oversee pipeline management forecasting accuracy and demand generation in partnership with marketing.
  • Ensure disciplined sales execution from prospecting through close and post-sale handoff.

Customer & Partner Engagement

  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key customers and strategic accounts.
  • Represent the company in negotiations for large complex or strategic deals.
  • Collaborate closely with vendor partners to align on go-to-market initiatives promotions and joint sales efforts.
  • Serve as a customer advocate ensuring exceptional customer experience and long-term retention.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Operations Finance Marketing Supply Chain and Solution Services to ensure seamless execution.
  • Align direct sales initiatives with pricing inventory logistics and credit policies.
  • Work with Sales Operations to enhance CRM usage data integrity reporting and analytics.

Team Development & Talent Management

  • Recruit develop and retain top sales leadership and talent.
  • Provide coaching mentoring and succession planning for high-potential leaders.
  • Design and support training programs to improve product knowledge solution selling and sales effectiveness.

Financial & Operational Accountability

  • Own direct sales budget expense management and ROI analysis.
  • Deliver accurate sales forecasts and contribute to corporate planning processes.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies ethical standards and contractual obligations.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Business Marketing or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • 12 years of progressive sales leadership experience preferably within telecommunications or technology distribution.
  • Proven track record of leading large direct sales organizations and exceeding revenue targets.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strategic thinker with strong execution discipline.
  • Deep understanding of direct sales and solution-based selling.
  • Strong financial acumen and forecasting capability.
  • Exceptional leadership communication and negotiation skills.
  • Data-driven decision-maker with CRM and sales analytics experience.

Reporting Relationship

  • Reports to: President and Chief Revenue Officer (CRO)
  • Direct Reports: Vice Presidents of Sales Regional Sales Directors Strategic Account Leaders

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 40-50% travel

  • Forecast accuracy (monthly and quarterly)
  • Average deal size and win rate
  • Sales cycle length
  • Customer Performance
  • Retention and renewal rates for direct accounts
  • Expansion revenue within existing customers
  • Strategic account penetration and wallet share growth
  • Customer satisfaction and Net Promoter Score (NPS)
  • Operational Effectiveness
  • Sales productivity per rep and per region
  • CRM adoption data quality and reporting compliance
  • Selling expense to revenue ratio
  • Quote-to-cash cycle time (in collaboration with Operations)
  • Talent & Organization
  • Sales team attainment and quota coverage
  • Leadership bench strength and succession readiness
  • Voluntary attrition of top-performing sales talent
  • Completion and effectiveness of sales training programs
