We are seeking a caring patient and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Brentwood starting as soon as possible. This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about helping pupils with additional needs succeed academically socially and emotionally.
The school has a strong inclusive ethos and a well-established SEN provision. Staff work closely with the SENCO class teachers and external professionals to ensure pupils receive tailored and effective support. The leadership team is supportive and values the contribution of SEN support staff.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant you will work with pupils who may have a range of additional needs including autism (ASC) ADHD speech and language needs or social emotional and mental health needs (SEMH). Support may be delivered 1:1 or in small groups depending on pupil requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Provide targeted support to pupils with special educational needs
Work 1:1 or in small groups to support learning and engagement
Assist pupils with academic tasks communication and emotional regulation
Implement strategies from EHCPs IEPs and behaviour support plans
Encourage positive behaviour and social interaction
Support pupils during lessons transitions and playtimes
Work closely with teachers SENCO and support staff
Monitor pupil progress and provide regular feedback
Promote independence while offering appropriate support
Follow safeguarding behaviour and inclusion policies at all times

Have experience supporting children with SEN in a school setting
Be patient empathetic and resilient
Have a genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs
Be confident managing behaviour and supporting emotional regulation
Have strong communication and teamwork skills
Be proactive reliable and adaptable
Be committed to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
Experience supporting pupils with ASD ADHD SEMH or communication difficulties is desirable but the school welcomes candidates with transferable skills and a strong desire to work in SEN education.
