Job Summary
The Director of Rail Maintenance will oversee all engineering maintenance and repair activities as well as the Capital program requirements for the authoritys rail fleets.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a maintenance program that enhances the authoritys commitment to support a state of good repair for all rail vehicles.
- Develop and implement programs processes and corrective actions to improve rail fleet reliability.
- Oversee the development and implementation of standard repair times under the lean/six sigma initiatives laid out by the Chief Mechanical Officer for all rail lines.
- Ability to develop KPIs/initiative to improve vehicle reliability cost reduction staff safety or materials procurement processes every fiscal year.
- Oversee implementation of reliability-centered maintenance processes on the new Red and Orange Line fleets the Green Line Type 9 Fleet and the new Green Line Type 10 Fleet.
- Continue the RCM process in place on the Blue Line monitoring costs and results monthly.
- Work to bring new fleets of vehicles Red Line #4 and Green Line Type 10 online at the MBTA and ensure maintenance activities so the vehicle fleets can enter revenue service
- Establish maintenance objectives that address all aspects of the railcar houses taking corrective action to improve the operation as necessary.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs and procedures for rail vehicles to improve service through failure reductions.
- Work with the CMO and Purchasing to implement Service Level Agreements based on the preventative maintenance programs across all rail lines.
- Work with the COM to develop standard procedures and policies for all Rail Vehicle Maintenance activities.
- Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures addressing safety environmental and engineering.
- Prepare and edit reports and responses for external regulatory agencies.
- Assist in the preparation administration monitoring and/or auditing of the annual Subway Maintenance Division budget.
- Respond to emergencies on a twenty-four (24) hour seven (7) days per week basis.
- Respond to each inquiry whether from a customer vendor or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner.
- Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees.
- Management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules regulations collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO Anti-Discrimination Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies.
- Perform related duties and projects as assigned.
- Remain current with the MBTA safety plan as well as the positions outline of responsibilities

- Supervise the Authoritys Subway Maintenance management engineering and maintenance staff.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
- A bachelors degree from an accredited institution.
- Seven (7) years of experience in transportation equipment repair and maintenance.
- Five (5) years of experience in a supervisor capacity managing staff and programs.
- Effective organizational and analytical skills.
- The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner.
- The ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience.
- Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed. Be included in the rotation of weekend/holiday on-call duty lists.
- Be available to work twenty-four (24) hours per day seven (7) days per week.
- Have the ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.
- Have a Valid Drivers License

- A High School Diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelors degree requirement.
