Our Talent Acquisition Team within the Human Resources Division is currently recruiting for an intern that aspires to create equitable consistent and defensible hiring practices.


We are one of the most public facing state agencies and the second largest revenue generating agency in Washington State. We regularly interact with over 6 million Washington residents. We advance public safety and consumer protection through licensing regulation and education and collect over $3 billion in revenue. Our Business & Professions Division (BPD) has 39 business and professional licensing programs and overall manages 42 programs providing oversight of Combative Sports events maintaining Uniform Commercial Code filings administering the Centralized Investigations & Audits Unit (CIAU) Performing Rights Society registration and maintaining the Firearms database for law enforcement.

Duties

The Human Resources Intern will support the Talent Acquisition (TA) unit within the Human Resources Division and gain hands-on exposure to full-cycle recruitment in a public sector environment. Under direct supervision the intern will observe and assist with recruitment activities including candidate review requisition setup interview facilitation and recruitment event coordination. This internship is designed to provide foundational knowledge of HR practices compliance requirements and diversity equity and inclusion (DEI)-aligned hiring processes.

Some of what you will do:

  • Support the drafting setup and posting of job requisitions.
  • Assist with interview scheduling document tracking and note collection.
  • Participate in documentation and learning activities related to DEI in recruitment and hiring.
  • Learn to review employment applications in the state wide online recruitment system (OLRS).
  • Observe interview facilitation processes including structured interviews and equitable DEI-aligned hiring practices.
  • Gain hands-on experience using HR systems and recruitment documentation tools.

Additional Requirements of Employment
  • Prior to a new hire a pre-employment screening including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the pre-employment check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicants suitability and competence to perform in the position.
  • This position required a minimum of 8 hours a week in-office at our Thurston county locations. More hours per week are allowed but please consider this minimum and your ability to work Monday-Friday during business hours prior to applying.
