Serves as an Inmate Classification & Computation Technician located within the Designations and Sentence Computation Center (DSCC) for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Responsible for Judgment & Commitment files sentence computations release audits of computations computation case audits security and control of records and initial inmate classifications for designations.
Collects all necessary information from the US District Court US Marshal Service and US Probation Office or other authorities needed to request and provide designation and compute inmates sentences.
Serves as a subject matter expert assisting institution staff with responses to questions and interpretations of status and case law within their respective field.

GL-06 and GL-07:As a general rule education is not creditable above GL-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.

To be creditable this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled.

The representative rate for this position is 76049 per annum ($36.44 per hour) for applicants eligible for law enforcement officer (LEO) coverage; and $73812 per annum ($35.37 per hour) for all other applicants.
NOTE: Salary ranges for all grade levels include both LEO and non-LEO salaries. LEO salaries apply to current LEO employees.

Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a urinalysis physical and background investigation. All applicants are subject to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit checks.
All applicants not currently working in an institution will be required to complete a qualification inquiry regarding convictions of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence in order to be authorized to carry a firearm.
The Core Value Assessment (CVA) is an in-person assessment that must be facilitated at a Bureau of Prisons Human Resource Servicing office. On the day of the scheduled interview a CVA will be administered. The applicant assessment must be completed within a 70 minute time period and a passing score of 68 must be obtained. Further employment consideration will not be extended if the applicant fails to complete the examination or fails to achieve a passing score. Note: The Core Value Assessment will not be administered to current BOP employees.
Successful completion of the Introduction to Correctional Techniques three-week training course at Glynco Georgia is required.

Current Federal Law Enforcement Employees:
A prerequisite of the secondary law enforcement position is the completion of the mandatory courses in Introduction to Correctional Techniques Phase I and Phase II. If you have not completed the mandatory courses in Introduction to Correctional Techniques Phase I and Phase II you are ineligible for secondary law enforcement position(s) and coverage but may still be considered for a non-law enforcement position.
Individuals selected who are under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) or Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and who have not had three years primary law enforcement retirement coverage will not be covered by law enforcement retirement while in this position. To regain coverage individuals must return to a position with primary coverage.
