We are seeking a school facilitator for a 6-year-old autistic male in Ballito KZN. The child in question is friendly talkative playful and confident. He loves to learn enjoys being busy and loves to go on outings. His parents are hoping to enroll him in Grade R in a mainstream classroom soon. As he will be moving from a remedial environment a facilitator has been requested to oversee and assist in his day.
Main Purpose of the job: In this role you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the educational journey of this student. Your responsibilities will include assisting him with managing the school routine and following instructions supporting his individual learning regulation and sensory needs throughout the school day. The role will also include academic support where needed as well as facilitation of social relationships. It will be necessary to work closely with his multidisciplinary team and implement relevant support strategies necessary for further learning and development. A suitable candidate should be interested in neurodiversity and have a passion for supporting neurodivergent individuals.
Job Objectives:
To collaborate with a team to support the childs needs
Encourage and facilitate social engagements with peers
Accommodate and alleviate sensory difficulties
Redirect his attention to tasks and minimise distractions
Integrate supportive tools into the learning environment as advised by his therapists
Experience in neurodivergence autism spectrum disorder and experience working with children that are neurodivergent
Fluent in English
Candidate should pride themselves in their empathy and kindness as well as an ability to gently but firmly implement boundaries
Familiarity with the Reggio Emilio approach would be advantageous
Possession of a valid drivers license and reliable car
Teaching experience and a teaching degree or diploma is an advantage.
Availability Monday to Friday for the duration of the school day.
There will be an opportunity to be trained by the NDC Facilitation Academy when the role commences and support sessions are provided for one month thereafter working in collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team based at the Neurodiversity Centre.
