Job Summary:

This HR Generalist position within the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) will work within a team environment to support the human resources payroll and benefit needs of departments units and employees. Under the supervision of the Associate HR Director this position will primarily focus on supporting faculty-related HR administrative functions in CALS which includes support for faculty recruitment activities and the processing of a variety of HR transactions and associated record-keeping.

Additionally this position will also provide administrative support for medical leave approvals and reasonable accommodation requests under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) working closely with the HR manager primarily responsible for these areas in the college.

This position is generally responsible for the following key areas:

  • Provision of administrative support throughout the faculty recruitment process.
  • Processing a variety of faculty-related pay and position transactions.
  • Serving as a second CALS Divisional Disabilities Representative (DDR) providing administrative support for employees medically related leave or job modifications.

The approximate split of duties is 50% faculty HR administrative support 40% leave and accommodation administrative support and 10% other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in one or more of the above areas of responsibility. They will have excellent interpersonal skills that includes experience working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. They will be extremely organized detail-oriented and have the ability to analyze information and exercise sound judgement.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the development implementation interpretation and revision of work unit Human Resources policies and procedures according to institutional and legal rules and regulations
  • Executes and audits work transactions and changes adhering to established policies and procedures to meet anticipated deadlines
  • Receives responds to and resolves employee questions and problems
  • Represents unit/program at institutional workshops informational meetings and training sessions
  • Provides consultation performs analytics and/or maintains personnel files communications and materials for work unit through various mediums
  • Processes employees medically related leave or job modification requests or a portion thereof.

  • Performs faculty-related payroll functions

Compensation:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $65000 - $75000. However final salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Work Schedule:

Regular work hours are 7:45am 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Occasional nights and weekends may be required for this position.

Required Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Professional experience training or education in at least two of the following functional HR areas:

    • Recruitment (posting positions advertising responding to applicant inquiries managing applicant materials coordinating the interview process)

    • Hiring/Onboarding activities (initiating background checks I-9 processing processing new hire paperwork assigning mandatory training assist with/coordination of orientation)

    • Employment Relations (performance management leave management)

    • Compensation & Benefits (payroll processing monitoring employee paid time off coordinating employee benefits processing salary adjustments)

    • Compliance (I-9 FLMA/ADA workers compensation records retention)

  • Managing a high volume of varied tasks in a fast-paced environment (e.g. organizing prioritizing consistently meeting deadlines managing multiple tasks).

  • Providing customer service to a range of customers (e.g. responding to inquiries providing technical support transparency guiding customers through a transaction follow-up / follow-through etc.).

  • Utilizing word processing spreadsheet email and database applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working with human resources information system (HRIS) and/or applicant tracking system (ATS) (e.g. Workday)

  • Performing payroll and benefits activities

  • Interpreting applying and communicating complex policies and/or procedures

  • Working in an environment directly or indirectly supporting medical leave or accommodation requests

Education:

Preferred: Associates Degree or other training in the field of human resources or business administration
