Job Summary

Applications are invited for appointment as Assistant Technical Manager (holding a functional title of Training Officer) in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Global Health Institute (HKJCGHI) School of Public Health (Ref.: 534321) to commence as soon as possible on a one-year temporary or two-year fixed-term basis with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.

HKU has partnered with IVI The University of Cambridge to establish the HKJCGHI funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. IVI is a non-profit international organization dedicated to vaccines and vaccination for global health. The Epidemiology Public Health and Impact (EPIC) Unit of IVI coordinates the epidemiology pandemic preparedness and capacity building work streams of the HKJCGHI. The appointee will coordinate all aspects of the training and capacity building activities of the HKJCGHI.

Applicants should possess a bachelors degree in Education or a Public Health related field. A Masters degree in Education or Public Health combined with strong organizational and program management skills is an advantage. Applicants should have 2 - 5 years of experience in training academic program development or a related role with familiarity with basic public health concepts and the ability to understand curriculum structures (e.g. core competencies practicum capstone). Experience working with subject matter experts is essential.

Applicants must be native or near-native speakers of French with excellent proficiency in written and spoken French. Additionally they should have a good command of written and spoken English. Backgrounds in international organizations low- and middle-income country settings and cross-cultural environments will be considered an asset. The position requires frequent international travel.

The appointee will coordinate the following:

  • Academic programs including the establishment of a Master of Public Health program in French at a partner university and support for PhD students in collaboration with partner institutions.
  • Targeted short-term trainings (e.g. biostatistics epidemiology genetics laboratory skills grant writing) and workshops jointly organized with IVI and partners.
  • Coordinating capacity-building trainings for HR finance grants IT and related functions.

This includes assessing training needs developing content coordinating logistics and facilitating sessions. The role also manages scheduling attendance and training records and evaluates program effectiveness to continuously improve content and delivery.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme totaling up to 10% of basic salary.
