POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE Assist the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements as well as conduct home visits. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher and administrator. | |
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Uphold and enforce school rules administrative regulations and state and local board policy 2. Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays 3. Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher 4. Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments 5. Assist in supervising students throughout the school day both inside and outside the classroom 6. Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students 7. Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom 8. Assist in inventory care and maintenance of equipment 9. Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing reports 10. Participate in in-service programs faculty meetings and special events as needed 11. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers 12. Increase the communication between campus staff and parents through home visits telephone and other methods 13. Communicate daily with principals and teachers to secure information to be obtained from or given to parents 14. Increase the attendance of students through direct methods including making home visits 15. Assist with SCE parental involvement activities and meetings 16. Translate communications on campuses into Spanish for parents; attend parent meetings to assist with translations when appropriate 17. Work with counselor clerk and other staff members to maximize services available to students 18. Regularly check secondary students for excessive absences and for three-week progress reports 19. Directly communicate to parents about their students progress through home visits telephone and other methods 20. All other duties as assigned by the supervisor | |
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 1. Possess or be willing to apply for a TEA Educational Aide Certificate (personal expense) 2. Educational Aide certificate as established by the State Board for Educator Certification. The applicant for the educational aide certificate shall 1. hold a high school diploma the equivalent of a high school diploma or higher; 2. have satisfied one of the following requirements: a. has three creditable years of experience as defined in Chapter 153 Subchapter CC of this title (relating to Commissioners Rules on Creditable Years of Service) as either an educational aide I or II; or b. has completed 30 semester credit hours of college credit with some emphasis on child growth and development or related subject areas; 3. have experience working with students and parents as approved by the employing superintendent. 3.
