THE JOB

The Nike Global Communication teams website is the beating heart of the functions external storytelling strategy and an essential tool for the NIKE Inc. enterprise.

The platform informs media investors consumers and employees on the priority products partnerships events and messages from Nike Jordan and Converse; it communicates the companys story and mission; and its digital magazine The Record offers a behind-the-scenes look at the sport stories that make NIKE Inc. unique.

Nikes Global Communications One Publishing team is seeking a General Assignment Writer to support this vital platform.

As a Principal General Assignment Writer you are a senior individual contributor who sets the standard for storytelling craft across projects. You are deeply involved in shaping stories from conception to publishing and you are known for sharp compelling insight-driven copy. Your work bridges messaging clarity and creative originality.

The ideal person has a diverse writing skillset with experience in editorial writing internal and external communications editing interviewing creating press releases and marketing copy. They should be a self-starter who can juggle multiple writing projects at once and can pivot quickly when plans change. Not least: We believe the person most successful in the role will be a person who loves sport.

  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Works seamlessly across One Publishing Platforms to deliver fully integrated work.

  • Systems Proficiency: Proficient in editorial writing CMS collaboration tools and presentation building.

  • Perception: You can read a room and stay one step ahead of potential risks and opportunities while cultivating and upholding team relationships.

  • A steady hand: You manage and resolve conflicts and challenges through proactive feedback kind conversation and problem-solving. You navigate and balance the needs of the business and the needs of your stakeholders.


IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

  • Synthesize One Publishing story submissions including decks interviews marketing materials and assets and help identify the channel-right strategy.

  • Conduct interviews with employees executives and other Nike voices to develop copy skillfully distilling complex topics into clear copy for Comms-owned channels.

  • Create and maintain project timelines while juggling multiple simultaneous writing projects providing clear milestones and aligning stakeholders to successfully deliver engaging copy.

  • Publish stories across the One Publishing internal and external channels.

  • Maintain and uphold the companys brand voice and messages across all communications.

  • Effectively craft communication for different stakeholders and write from diverse perspectives. Support the development and implementation of external strategies for Nike leaders.

  • Learn a baseline of Nike product history to help make sense of stories in historical context.

  • Build strong relationships confidently engaging with leadership at all levels and valuing cultural differences.

  • Be an active member of the One Publishing embedded with the team and aligned with their in-office expectations.


AS FOR EXPERIENCE YOU NEED

  • A Bachelors degree in Writing English Journalism or equivalent experience in creative industries.

  • 57 years of writing experience in editorial newspaper magazine corporate communications and/or public relations environments.

  • A strong editorial background and proven experience writing high-fidelity content.

  • Proven experience that demonstrates versatility and a diverse skillset writing editorial content internal and external communications long- and short-form copy press releases special project writing and marketing copy.

  • Prior experience working with a Content Management System (CMS).

  • Prior experience writing for Sr. Executives.

  • Expertise in managing multiple and competing projects and priorities in a fast-paced constantly evolving environment with expert-level prioritization skills.

  • An interest in sports an appreciation for diverse cultural insights and a keen focus on digital-first approaches.


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Using standard office equipment computers and related technology.

  • Certain activities are performed in an environmentally-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.

  • Bending reaching lifting pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.

  • No travel is anticipated for this role.

  • Thesis follows our clients in-office schedule of Monday through Thursday with the potential requirement to be in-office on Fridays as well in Beaverton OR.
