About the role

AEMOs DER Reform Delivery team in the Operations Transformation & Reform department is responsible for implementing a range of market reforms specifically related to integrating distributed energy resources (DER) and demand side response initiatives into the NEM including projects arising from the Energy Security Board (ESB) Post 2025 Market Design Final Advice to Energy Ministers and the Consumer Energy Resources (CER) Taskforce.

You will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of assigned DER projects. This role will with our stakeholders lead or support the design value assessment and delivery of DER and Flexible Demand Reforms. The services could operate in or outside regulatory frameworks.

What you will be doing

  • Collaborate with AEMO colleagues to bring together relevant subject matter expertise as required for the projects.

  • Provide leadership guidance and mentoring to project team members.

  • Work closely with project managers business analysts and other project team members to ensure projects meet agreed milestones and ensure risks and dependencies with system/process requirements are actively managed.

  • Identify and maintain cooperative relationships with key stakeholders (e.g. internal stakeholders and delivery partners regulatory and government agencies AEMO members and broader industry participants) and pro-actively manage those stakeholder relationships.

  • Provide analysis and strategic advice to managers the Group Manager and where appropriate the Executive Leadership Team.

What you will bring to the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant context to Energy Markets (e.g. Engineering Mathematics Economics Law Commerce Finance Arts).

  • Strong experience in the Energy sector ideally in DER with an understanding of the physical operation of the energy markets commercial concepts and the political legal and regulatory framework in which the energy industry operates.

  • The ability to convey ideas effectively in a non-technical manner.

  • Demonstrated capability to lead project teams taking high level market / service designs to practical implementation in operational energy environments.

  • Sound experience developing data-driven analytical insight would be highly regarded including coding in Python and in R.
