What Youll Do as a Peer Support Specialist- Provide safe client-centered support while following program policies and standards of care
- Build and maintain therapeutic trust-based relationships with the individuals you serve
- Help create a positive recovery-focused environment where clients feel supported and understood
- Meet with clients one-on-one and in groups to instill hope encourage responsibility and guide them in setting recovery goals building self-advocacy skills creating crisis plans and strengthening natural supports
- Use your own lived experience to model healthy coping skills and share parts of your recovery journey that are helpful and relevant
- Observe client behavior track progress and communicate important updates to the team
Qualifications Applicants must meet ONE of the following options:
Option 1:- High school diploma or GED
- One year of posthigh school education in social work psychology or a related field
- One year of general work experience
- Or an equivalent mix of related education and experience
Option 2:- High school diploma or GED
- Self-identified lived experience as:
- An individual in recovery from a mental health and/or substance use disorder or
- A parent of a child with a behavioral health disorder or
- An adult with an ongoing supportive relationship with someone experiencing a behavioral health disorder
Additional Qualifications:- Completion of Peer Support Training through Utah DSAMH (preferred not required)
- Ability to problem-solve and maintain a client-centered approach
- Spanish speakers may qualify for increased wages after testing

Employment at Wasatch Behavioral Health is contingent upon successful completion of a drug screen motor vehicle record review and criminal background check. After hire you must complete and receive a Criminal Background Clearance (BCI) from Utah State Office of Licensing. Upon receipt of a conditional offer of employment in the position you must provide an official copy of licensure or certification.
