One of the core drivers of trust in our firm is the excellence of our external audits. As a key part of the SMA Assurance Quality Organisation the Methodology Reporting & Audit Technical (MRAT) team plays a pivotal role in empowering engagement teams to plan execute and deliver high-quality assurance work. We work closely with teams across Assurance to resolve critical issues on both listed and non-listed engagements particularly through the Real Time Assurance (RTA) programme and support for internal and external quality inspections.
The MRAT team is also at the forefront of the professions evolution. Whether responding to new auditing standards identifying trends for Root Cause Analysis (RCA) or driving efficiency improvements we equip engagement leaders and engagement teams with forward-thinking guidance across Audit Methodology Aura and a range of other quality and efficiency initiatives.

Ideal candidates are those eager to learn collaborate and meaningfully support engagement leaders and engagement teams across the South Market Area.

Responsibilities/Output:
Primary responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:
Delivering expert guidance on complex audit technical matters to support engagement teams facilitate high quality audits reviews non-audit assurance and other related services engagements.
Conducting formal reviews and consultations on audit related-technical topics.
Developing and maintenance of various manual and automated templates.
Reviewing audit reports and other deliverables in support of the RTA programme.
Lead the development and enhancement of tools and templates that elevate audit quality and empower teams across the practice.
Drive positive behavioural change among engagement leaders and their teams through direct interaction constructive challenge and the promotion of highquality audit approaches.
Participation in various IRBA and SAICA task groups and to provide comment and input into exposure drafts on new and emerging local and international standards/pronouncements or revisions to existing standards/pronouncements.
Design and deliver impactful training content that strengthens technical capability and fosters a culture of continuous learning.
Secondary / Ad hoc responsibilities may include but may not be limited to the following:
Build and strengthen collaborative working relationships across the African network fostering connectivity and shared best practices.
Engage with key stakeholders in the East and West Market Areas to enhance cross-territory coordination and knowledge exchange.
Travel across various South Market Area regions to provide on-the-ground support insights and engagement with local teams.
Support global initiatives by collaborating with the core global team and representing the South Market Area in key global forums.
Requirements:
Qualification Level: Chartered Accountant (South Africa)

Experience Required: Previous experience in a technical environment will be advantageous

Strong interpersonal capabilities demonstrating emotional intelligence and the ability to build trusted productive relationships.
Demonstrated intellectual curiosity supported by professional scepticism and strong critical-thinking skills.
Confident presentation skills with the ability to engage and influence diverse audiences.
Comfortable communicating complex information clearly and confidently across the South Market Area and broader Africa region.
Solid understanding of PwC methodology (including US Audit Guide considerations) and the International Standards on Auditing.
Experience with integrated audits and SEC-reporter engagements is advantageous.
Proven ability to conduct independent research and provide sound well-reasoned conclusions.
Strong analytical and solution-oriented mindset with meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to collaborate effectively within a team while also operating independently and engaging with colleagues at all levels.
Self-driven with strong project and time-management skills capable of owning tasks from inception to completion while managing pressure and deadlines.
Flexible proactive and quick to anticipate areas where support or intervention may be needed.
Robust technical research skills including the ability to respond to help desk queries using well-documented references PwC methodology and ISA requirementscommunicated in clear plain language with rationale.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) with experience in CoPilot Alteryx Power BI and similar tools considered beneficial.
