Data Engineer (Insurance Finance + IFRS 17 focused)

This is a newly created role and you will be setting the foundation for (and possibly leading) our BI/ data team moving forward!

About the Role

You will be working in a fast-paced organization that promotes cross-functional collaboration.

On a daily basis you will collaborate hands-on with backend engineers and business users specifically the Finance and Actuarial team to architect maintain and promote a secure self-service BI solution including but not limited to data warehousing ETL pipelines automations and various reporting systems for these teams.

Your Key Responsibilities Include:

70-80% on IFRS 17 and finance-related matters:

IFRS 17 Data Management and Reporting

• Design and implement data models and pipelines specifically tailored to IFRS 17 reporting requirements

• Develop comprehensive data solutions that support complex insurance contract accounting standards

• Create robust data extraction transformation and loading (ETL) processes for IFRS 17 compliance

Technical Data Infrastructure

• optimise our existing centralized data warehouse for financial and actuarial analysis

• be the bridge between engineering and finance / actuarial understand user stories and insurance operation workflows model raw ingested data into business-user-friendly entities

• design technical strategies and infrastructure to facilitate self-service business intelligence including strategies to deploy data warehouse changes with CI/CD pipelines

General Reporting and Analytics

• prepare automated reports for strategic projects and regulatory reporting

• assist Finance and Actuarial teams to scale existing reporting workflows

• develop and maintain data quality checks and validation mechanisms

20-30% on other data engineering work in other area (e.g. marketing operations)

Roughly the composition of your task will be as follows:

• Discussion between the technical and financial teams

• Generating and streamlining reports for Finance and Actuarial

• Data modelling

• Maintaining and optimizing our data warehouse and pipeline processes to fit the Finance and Actuarial teams needs

The success of this role will be measured by:

• successful end-to-end delivery of IFRS 17 data infrastructure

• accuracy and completeness of financial reporting

• accuracy and efficiency in the data handling process

About you

We are looking for a smart curious and problem-solver with the following skills and qualifications

• must have 3 year of experience as a data engineer

• proficient Data Modelling techniques using SQL

• proficient Has experience in a cross-collaboration working environment: both with the engineering team and business users being able to listen to user stories and consolidate business requirements

• proficient Good understanding of software engineering practices

• highly preferable Experience in IFRS 17 related project

• highly preferable 1 years of experience working in the insurance industry

• preferable High-level knowledge in cloud-based infrastructure and services (preferably in AWS)

• fair Experience in popular data tools and frameworks e.g. Airflow dbt

• fair Experience in using data visualization/ BI tools e.g. Looker Mixpanel Tableau Power BI

• fair Excel for data transformation including but not limited to using pivot tables and Power Query
