Description

The Application System Specialist 2 will build and support the core applications and integration associated with Higher Education (Student Information System Learning Management System Enterprise Resource Planning Document Management System Process Automation System etc.). This role requires understanding and knowledge of standardizing and optimizing application functionality and will coordinate and communicate cross-functionally between multiple teams and technical partners. This role will provide expertise and assist with design decisions plan core application lifecycle changes and upgrades coordinate outages performance tuning monitoring and data gathering for reporting and performance purposes.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Mission Advancement
    1.   2. Administrative Functions and Tasks
    1. Documents and updates knowledge information in the IT Support ticketing system
    2. Makes recommendations for changes to core applications in an effort to create efficiencies and reduce/eliminate future problems
    3. Communicates and collaborates with cross functional teams made up of technical and non-technical stakeholders to meet business requirements
    4. Anticipate contract renewals and roadmap features in order to assist in generating meaningful and productive vendor interactions and obtaining accurate proposals
    5. Completes projects and tasks assigned by the supervisor
  3. Application Building
    1. Provides and demonstrates knowledge in building and configuring end user functions on system-level and multi-user core applications
    2. Works regularly with operational business owners to produce meaningful and productive solutions
    3. Implements recommended core application changes using change control methodology and IT Support ticketing system
    4. Assists in the review testing and implementation of core application changes
  4. Application Support
    1. Implements upgrades and patches using change control methodology and IT Support ticketing system
    2. Monitors alerts health checks and performance of core applications.
    3. Communicates with other departments within the organization to develop analysis of data tools and metrics
    4. Facilitates support with vendors and System Administrators as needed for core application issue resolution
    5. Demonstrates awareness of roadmap of features and functionality of core applications in order to determine which version/revision the organization should target
  5. Communication and Collaboration
    1. Coordinate IT and vendor resources with internal stakeholders including business owners and department leads
    2. Serve as a liaison between technical teams vendors leaders students faculty and staff
    3. Meet regularly (monthly quarterly etc.) with business owners to review needs and determine updates and configuration changes for core applications
    4. Communicate impact of outages or functional issues to appropriate stake holders
  6. Depth of Knowledge
    1. Possesses keen understanding of Higher Education core applications and integrations
    2. Is familiar with core application key contacts (FranU power users FranU IT FMOLHS IS vendor and other players) in order to efficiently solve problems and enable functionality
    3. Participates in capturing errors logs and collaborating with stakeholders to do the same to resolve issues and enable functionality
    4. Performs pre-deployment and post-deployment application changes integration and maintenance in conjunction with vendor development and operational support teams
    5. Monitors alerts and performs health checks of core applications integrations reporting and performance
    6. Mentor other IT team members and power users
  7. Change Control and Issue Resolution
    1. Work with stakeholders (customers leaders IT team members from FranU and FMOLHS IS vendors and others) for consultation to develop plans for build and support of core applications
    2. Document issue resolution and change control plans and activities using the IT Support ticketing system
    3. Encourage customers to request assistance with core applications using the IT Support ticketing system or create your own tickets
    4. Follow standard change control process using non-production environments where available
    5. Document time in IT Support ticketing system
  8. Continuous learning
    1. Stay abreast of latest developments regarding core applications
    2. Maintain regular interactions with vendors regarding roadmap of features and functionality of core application releases versions and revisions
    3. Use Udemy and other available tools to keep up with industry standards and sharpen administrative toolset (MS Copilot vendor supplied tutorials)
    4. Develop roadmap to achieve organizational departmental and personal goals
    5. Attend virtual and at times in-person conferences to develop and maintain roadmap of features/functionality and to develop and maintain key professional relationships (networking)
  9. Performance Improvement
    1. Develops and implements data driven performance improvement methodologies
    2. Maintains accurate records for use in evaluating core application performance
    3. Identifies ways to improve current core application services
    4. Keeps leadership and appropriate stakeholders informed of enhancements issues and resolutions
  10. Other Duties as Assigned
    1. Ensures security integrity and privacy of FranU in conjunction with organization policies and procedures
    2. Perform additional tasks as assigned
    3. Maintain flexibility to support evolving business needs and core applications changes


Qualifications

EXPERIENCE

  • Six (6) years of Higher Education core applications build and support experience

EDUCATION

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field;
  • Masters degree preferred (May substitute four (4) years of experience in Higher Education core applications build and support for Bachelors degree)

SPECIAL SKILLS

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including conflict management and working collaboratively as part of a team;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Knowledge of relevant federal state and institutional higher education compliance and regulations;
  • Proficient with core applications associated with Higher Education;
  • Ability to build and test core applications and integrations
