The Federal Work Study Fine Art Assistant position provides support to faculty students and visitors at the Cannery location. The role involves assisting instructors with class-related needs managing tools and materials in the tool room and helping to maintain the gallery during show hours. This position plays a key role in ensuring smooth daily operations within the Fine Arts Department.

Responsibilities:

Assist Instructors with Morning Class Needs

• Arrive at the Cannery by 8:00 AM to provide support for instructors prior to class sessions.
• Organize the prop closet and ensure that materials are ready for use.
• Clean classrooms after classes as needed to maintain a tidy and functional space.
• Put up and take down posters around the school to promote events and classes.

Support in the Tool Room

• Manage the tool room during late afternoon and evening hours as the room is open until 8:00 PM.
• Assist students in checking out and returning tools ensuring proper handling and maintenance.
• Help maintain an organized and safe tool room environment.

Gallery Assistance during Show Hours

• Serve as a gallery attendant during exhibit hours when shows are running.
• Greet visitors provide information about the exhibits and answer any questions they may have.
• Ensure the gallery is well-maintained and that visitors have a positive experience.

Qualifications:

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and follow instructions.

Reports to: Shyla Basuroy Department Manager Schools of Fine Art and Jewelry & Metal Arts

Pay Rate:$19.18 per hour

Work Schedule: Up to 10 hours/week*

Federal Work Study schedules can work up to 20 hours per week*

*Federal Work Study work schedules may not conflict with the students class schedule.

Length of Employment: The students starting term at the Academy of Art University through graduation.
