Our Client is a South East Queensland based construction company that prides itself on quality work and strong relationships. With decades of industry experience we deliver tailored building solutions across residential commercial health education and mixed-use projects. They specialise in designing managing and constructing new builds and commercial refurbishments.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Estimator is responsible for accurately assessing project costs performing detailed take-offs from drawings producing comprehensive Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and reviewing subcontractor quotes.
The candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills - effective interaction resourceful and able to find solutions independently anticipating challenges and proactively addressing them can be trusted to handle information maintain confidentiality and consistently deliver quality work.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cost Estimation:
Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates for various projects ensuring all factors are considered.
Analyse project specifications blueprints and other documents to prepare thorough cost summaries.
Update and maintain cost databases and other reference materials.
Take-off Drawings:
Perform precise quantity take-offs from architectural and engineering drawings.
Identify and quantify all necessary materials labor and equipment needed for project completion.
Utilise specialised software to enhance accuracy and efficiency in take-off processes.
Producing Bills of Quantities (BoQs):
Compile detailed BoQs that clearly outline all project requirements.
Ensure BoQs are comprehensive and align with project specifications and drawings.
Regularly update BoQs to reflect any changes or adjustments in project scope.
Reviewing Subcontractor Quotes:
Obtain and evaluate quotes from subcontractors ensuring they are competitive and align with project requirements.
Conduct thorough reviews of subcontractor bids for accuracy completeness and compliance with project specifications.
Negotiate with subcontractors to achieve the best value and quality for the project.
Requirements
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Proficiency in using estimating software and tools (e.g. Bluebeam PlanSwift etc.)
Strong understanding of construction processes materials and costs
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite particularly Excel
Strong English Language Skills - written & verbal
Strong Writing Skills - conversational Australian English
Bachelors degree in Construction Management Quantity Surveying Civil Engineering or a related field
Minimum of 5 years of experience in Cost Planning or related field
Must be sufficient in Cost X
Familiarity with local building codes and regulations

Able to work independently with minimal supervision
Confident communicating with subcontractors and internal stakeholders
