Our client is a US-based commercial landscape construction company delivering projects ranging from mid-size developments to multi-million-dollar installations. Their work includes planting irrigation systems hardscape grading and site furnishings. They are building a high-performance estimating team to support a rapidly expanding project pipeline.
Role Overview
The Assistant Estimator supports the estimating and preconstruction team by preparing accurate quantity takeoffs organizing bid documentation coordinating vendor pricing and supporting proposal development.
This is a technical detail-driven role focused on accuracy speed and scope awareness. It is not a sales position.
Key Responsibilities
Quantity Takeoffs
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from construction drawings
- Measure areas counts linear footage and material quantities
- Prepare organized quantity summaries in Excel or Google Sheets
Plan and Specification Review
- Review construction drawings and bid packages
- Organize scope notes and identify key requirements
- Assist in identifying scope gaps or inconsistencies
Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination
- Request and track vendor and subcontractor pricing
- Organize incoming quotes
- Prepare bid comparison sheets
- Follow up on missing or incomplete pricing
Bid Organization and Documentation
- Prepare proposal templates and scope breakdowns
- Maintain inclusions and exclusions lists
- Track bids and submission deadlines
- Upload bid documentation to portals when required
Cost and Database Support
- Maintain internal pricing databases
- Organize historical cost data
- Assist with unit price updates
- Support value engineering exercises
Required Hard Skills
- Strong written and spoken English
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
- High attention to detail and numerical accuracy
Preferred Experience
- Construction estimating or estimating support experience
- Experience with takeoff software such as PlanSwift Bluebeam OST or similar
- Background in construction management engineering architecture or landscape architecture
- Familiarity with commercial bid platforms such as BuildingConnected iSqFt or Procore
