About the role:
Reporting to theSenior Lead Aquatic Sciences theLeadAquatic Sciencesis responsible forexecuting regional and local aquatic effects monitoring programs and aquatic science supporting studies that support coal mining in the Elk Valley. The position requires specialized scientific knowledge in the fields of applied aquatic sciences ecotoxicology fisheries and or biological effects monitoring combined with the ability to interpret multidisciplinary program results and understand linkages and implications to other programs and water management at our operations.
To be successfulwe are looking for someone with excellent organizational interpersonal and communication skills who can coordinate and mobilize resources and mentor junior team members. This role requires a critical thinker with creative problem solving and decision-making abilities. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction and collaborate within/across teams would be vital for success in this role.

In this role you will:

    • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
    • Design implement and manage technically sophisticated biological and physicochemical monitoring programs including the collection ofchemical physical and biological data
    • Provide technical review of study designs and reports associated with aquatic monitoring programs
    • Maintain complex budgets and complete other project management tasks
    • Work closely with the Water Quality Management team during the implementation of water treatment and calcite management to improve aquatic health in the valley
    • Supervise field investigations inspections and audits with the support of coordinators and technicians
    • Oversee contractors to confirm work is being conductedin accordance withthe project scope and health and safety requirements
    • Manage large data sets and complex program budgets
    • Collaborate closely with partners through the Environmental Monitoring and Elk Valley Fish and Fish Habitat Committees
    • Some field work in remote locations may berequired

Requirements:

    • Degree in Environmental Science Ecology Toxicology ChemistryBiologyor related field
    • Possess or eligible for registration as a designated professional ()
    • Minimum five years ofdemonstratedexperience in the field of environmental compliance ormonitoringspecific to mining
    • Specialized scientific knowledge in the field of applied aquatic sciencesfisheriesand/or biological effects monitoring
    • Experience with environmental data management software (GIS/EQuIS) and proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite
    • Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial environmental and waste legislation standards and effective industrypractices
    • Valid Class 5 Drivers License or equivalent
Salary:$101400/ year

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidates relevant experience skills and competencies and considers internal equity.
