Job Summary

POSITION TITLE: AntrimLibrary Media Specialist - long term substituteSUPERVISOR: School Principal QUALIFICATIONS:Valid NH Certification as a Library Media of a Bachelor Degree in Library and Information Studies from an accredited evidence of technology proficiency with a variety of tools and evidence of excellent written and oral communication evidence of excellent teamwork and interpersonal evidence of personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students teachers administrators and one (1) to three (3) years Library Media alternatives to these qualifications as may be acceptable and :The Library Media Specialist ensures that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information; empowers students to be critical thinkers enthusiastic readers skillful researchers and ethical users of information; collaborates with classroom teachers to design and implement units of instruction and assess student learning; and aligns the school library with the mission goals and objectives of the school and AND RESPONSIBILITIES:As a leader the Library Media Specialist creates an environment where collaboration and creative problem solving thrive; fosters and environment of creativity innovation and openness to new ideas; anticipates future obstacles and continually re-tools to meet challenges; and demonstrates his or her role as a visible and active school leader library program advocate and a professional member of the school library community. This is accomplished through the following duties:Demonstrates and maintains knowledge of the curriculum instruction instructional materials information and instructional in the districts implementation of the Common Core and promotes a positive educational environment in the library media with the principals teachers technology integrators and students to ensure that the library media center is an integral part of the schools on district curriculum library and technology current in professional practices and developments information technologies and educational research applicable to school library collaboratively developed and up-to-date district policies with the learning community concerning such issues as materials selection circulation reconsideration of materials copyright privacy and acceptable the use of the instructional technology to engage students and to improve learning providing 24/7 access to digital information resources for the entire learning as an active accessible and informed proponent for school library programs and the guiding principles of the an instructional partner the Library Media Specialist works with teachers and other educators to build and strengthen connections between student information and research needs curricular content learning outcomes and informational resources; and demonstrates his or her role as an essential and equal partner in the instructional process. This is accomplished through the following duties:Collaborates with teachers and students to design and teach engaging inquiry and learning experiences and assessments that incorporate multiple literacies and foster critical with technology integrators to maintain library media collections (print and electronic) based on needs of curriculum student abilities and learning styles instructional methods and needs of teachers and quality of in the implementation of collaboratively planned learning experiences by providing group and individual instruction assessing student progress and evaluating and implements staff development opportunities with technology integrators related to library and implements the use of new technologies with technology integrators for educational applications and information in the curriculum development process at both the building and district level to ensure that the curricula include the full range of literacy skills (information media visual digital and technological literacy) necessary to meet content standards and to develop lifelong with teachers and others to plan and implement meaningful experiences that will promote a love of reading and lifelong and plans professional development opportunities within the school and district for and with all staff including other Library Media an information specialist the Library Media Specialist provides leadership and expertise in the selection acquisition evaluation and organization of information resources and technologies in all formats as well as expertise in the ethical use of information; and ensures equitable access and responsible use of information. This is accomplished through the following duties:Motivates guides and advises students in their reading viewing and listening (arranges catalogs and classifies) learning resources collection for maximum and effective and implements the use of new technologies for library media center management to include electronic circulation and students and staff in identifying obtaining using and/or producing media in appropriate formats for specific learning the school community of materials equipment and research including current developments in the field of instructional literacy among staff and students including group presentations (book talks author visits etc.) as well as individual reading and networks with other libraries librarians and agencies to provide access to resources outside the promotes and uses existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning supplement school resources connect the school with the global learning community communicate with students and teachers and provide 24/7 access to library guidance in software and hardware evaluation and developing processes for such copyright fair use and licensing of intellectual property and assists users with their understanding and observance of the a teacher the Library Media Specialist empowers students to become critical thinkers enthusiastic readers skillful researchers and ethical users of information. This is accomplished through the following duties:Guides students through processes (in various disciplines at various grade levels) in research thinking and communicating which include the skills and strategies needed to retrieve evaluate organize share and apply information effectively to enable students to become more independent learners (preferably utilizing Big 6).Teaches students how to read for understanding for exposure to diversity of viewpoints and genres and for a program administrator the Library Media Specialist works collaboratively with members of the learning community to define the policies of the school library program and to guide and direct all activities related to it; and maximizes the efficiency and effectiveness of the school library program. This is accomplished through the following duties:Promotes the resources and services of the library media the Principal in developing and justifying the library flexible circulation loan and utilization policies for collections and the work of student assistants and the informational and instructional needs of students and teachers based on the American Association of School Library standards and Common Core standards and establishes short and long range goals based on identified to federal and state laws pertaining to media including those regarding copyright privacy and access to and implements procedures for preview evaluation selection and acquisition of materials and equipment consistent with the district and maintains materials and equipment with input from technology access to resources outside the school through interlibrary loan networking and other resource sharing that school library program goals and objectives are aligned with school and district long-range strategic effective management principles including the supervision of personnel resources and facilities in developing and implementing program goals and for flexible scheduling of the school libraries to provide student accessibility to staff and resources at points of any other related duties as assigned by the MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED:Frequently stooping bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back reaching extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any standing particularly for sustained periods of walking moving about on foot to accomplish tasks particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to lifting raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back grasping applying pressure to an object with the fingers and talking expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which one must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately loudly or hearing and perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make the discriminations in work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work.
