What is the Opportunity
We are a trusted provider of end-to-end integrated Urban Transportation Solutions. From Light Rail Transit (LRT) to subways and commuter rail systems Aecons expansive resources for planning engineering procuring building and commissioning large-scale infrastructure projects means we can handle all aspects of a transit project from conception through operation.
The Director Estimating will lead and oversee the estimating function for major rail and infrastructure projects in Quebec. This senior role is responsible for managing a team of estimators ensuring accuracy and compliance in all cost estimates and providing strategic input throughout the bid and development phases. The Director will play a critical role in shaping project success by delivering precise competitive and risk-aware estimates while fostering strong relationships with clients consultants and subcontractors.
What You Will Do Here:
- Lead and mentor teams of Estimators ensuring high performance and professional development.
- Provide oversight and guidance for cost make-up including labor material equipment and subcontractor scope.
- Assist the Chief Estimator in managing and developing the estimating group.
- Manage and lead the estimating effort through development phases chairing meetings to set project goals.
- Review design options and recommend optimal solutions based on cost engineering quality and material availability.
- Provide estimating input to risk assessment and management processes; identify risk areas and contribute to the Risk Register.
- Formulate all tender costs for target cost submissions with accuracy and insight.
- Lead the estimate close-out process including tender reviews and subcontractor proposal analysis.
- Ensure compliance with Aecons estimating policies risk management protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Oversee the successful transition and handover of estimating documents to project execution teams.
- Develop and manage data and metrics to improve estimating processes.
- Maintain positive relationships with clients consultants and subcontractors.
- Drive an inclusive culture that promotes equity welcomes diverse perspectives and fosters career progression.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Diploma or Degree in Civil Construction or equivalent technical training.
- 15 years of estimating and operational experience on major projects including Design-Build with at least 5 years in a management role.
- Professional Engineer designation or equivalent preferred.
- Extensive experience with large infrastructure bids (rail roads bridges).
- Proven ability to lead large multi-disciplinary bids.
- Expert in reading and interpreting construction drawings and documents.
- Knowledge of Rail Method of Measurement (RMM1) is an asset.
- Strong understanding of contract language terms bonding and risk management.
- Proficiency in MS Excel Word Project P6 and estimating software (e.g. Hard Dollar).
- Solid knowledge of project controls including cost and scheduling.
- Bilingual in French and English is required.
- Must be local to Quebec City or willing to relocate.
